Needing referral for bike mechanic in the lubbock, tx area

I have been looking everywhere, and asking everyone I can possibly think to ask. Second gear in my 04 with 15k miles on it is about to kick the bucket. Anyone know of a trustworthy mechanic in the Lubbock, Tx area that would be able to help me get this fixed? I ride the bike consistently as long as it isnt super cold, to get to and from work to save miles on my pickup and gas, so I would really like to get it fixed right. I have seen an ad on ebay for the undercutting service for 150 bucks, but I am not sure if there is anything else that needs to be replaced for sure since I don't really have any experience that would give me the confidence to tackle it. I am on a budget at the moment, but dont wanna miss something important or accidentally mess something else up even worse. Any suggestions?

How do you know for sure that 2nd gear is gonna kick the bucket?
What’s the symptoms?
We’re always interested about mechanical issues here on the forum.. tell us more please.

This is just like a car, house, or any other piece that requires maintenance. The cost of having a job done increases with the skill level needed to do the job.

Unless you know someone who will work for cheap, this isn't a budget oriented repair. If you under cut gears, you would start with a new gear. You don't repair old gears by under cutting.

Even if you found someone willing to do it for half price, could you trust them to do good work?

Sorry, been busy with all the holiday stuff going on. Second gear rolling at higher rpm range, say 6k, nail it and it will feel like it jumps a tooth, but just rolling on the throttle slower can run it all the way up to redline with no issue. I have had the same issue before on an R6 which I ended up just parking the bike over it. I do need a new chain but would it not definitely jump in first gear or maybe even third if it was just a chain or sprock issue?

I totally agree, I guess I should have specified the budget part being more geared towards what parts to replace not necessarily the labor. I was under the impression that the undercutting could be done to the original gears. Thank you for pointing that out to me, perfect example as to why I do not feel confident in doing the work myself otherwise I most definitely would.

If it ain’t a worn out chain and sprockets, it’s gonna be worn gear dogs causing slippage in the gear cluster.
I hope by some miracle you can find a skilled mechanic that can repair it successfully for a fair cost/price.
By the way, it’s Christmas morning here in NZ so… MERRY CHRISTMAS my friend!!

Hi. Marry Christmas to you and all

download the manual
Pull the motor yourself tagging and lablel everything
Send/take motor to someone to R&R trans
they can just send your gearbox out for undercutting/repair
from what I have seen undercutting ranges from a few hundred buck to 2k+
(or free if you do your own :D)
That would be the ideal scenario for sure. I am sure if I take my time and stay organized I can get it all torn down and ready to be inspected. It does not seem to be too far worn as of now so I wanted to get ahead of it. I appreciate everyones input, I am hoping someone knows a guy within reasonable driving distance to Lubbock Texas that I could pay to look at everything and let me know if I do in fact need anything aside from the drive gear cut like shift forks or drum, shafts etc.... Towns that I would consider to be close enought might include Amarillo, Midland, Odessa, Abileine etc.

not costing that much if you do the work .Ive dealt with MT performance from ebay.
total cost was $400 MT under cuts 2nd if more wrong they will let you know.
paid them $168 they paid return shipping i bought 1 shift fork, gasket set, oil filter anti freeze
laid everything out in order and didnt move a thing

if you dont have much experience with repairs best to farm it out est.. $1500-2000

nice. so i would just need to remove the second gear and send that or would it be the entire transmission? I am also becoming nervously suspicious of valve problems and or cam chain tension. Another reason I was really hoping to find a local ish mechanic but one thing at a time as the bike makes good power and ive been told repeatedly they are simply noisy engines and sounded normal to the guys who have listened to it. Engine out of frame, and entire transmission gets removed.
And, yes, these are noisy engines.
