New member just brought an old Busa

Hi,

Today I purchased my first Hayabusa, I have admired the awesome looks and power for many years but never owned one. Liking older bikes I had the opportunity to purchase a year 2000 UK bike with 23000 miles on the clock thats been sitting in a shed for the last four years.
I plan to strip it all right back and spend the next few months going though it all cleaning and replacing anything that needs it. I will be changing all the fluids, filters etc.

Any advice on what to look out for on a Busa of this age any common parts that fail or will need checking.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to the day it gets its MOT and I can finally feel the power !!

Here it is, as it came out of the shed, it needs some love !!

Looks complete so that’s a plus. Tank cover, custom seats, aftermarket cans and shield, otherwise looks stock. I added braided SS brake lines, EBC HH brake pads, Amsoil and an OEM or K&N oil filter. OEM air filter too. You’ll need to check the interior of the tank for crud and rust. Hopefully it’s not too bad. I would NOT try starting it before changing all fluids including new fuel. As a 2000 it may be the unrestricted model like the 99 model. I think that model also has a different fuel pump that may need to be looked at. New battery, air up the tires, hopefully they’re not too old. Good luck. Take pics as you uncover things in your ‘refreshment’ of a fine Gen1 Hayabusa.

Hi,

As you say I won't be starting it for some time until I've gone through it all.
I will be putting new tyres and battery going through the brakes etc.
I'm not keen on the tank cover so that will be coming off and I have a seat hump to go on. Will probably get a black seat.
It was first registered April 2000. It has the 220mph speedo if that means anything.

Welcome, you've got yourself an unrestricted bike.....awesome...

Good idea and as @WuzzaCBXRider said go through everything and get it all cleaned up before starting it.

This model year was known for fuel pump issues, perhaps yours has had the modification..once you get it torn down somewhat keep us apprised with pictures and someone can guide and advise you.

Awesome find! Hopefully she was stored decently and the tank is not trash. Please do post some pictures as you bring this beauty back to life.
200MPH speedo=supreme bragging rights :firing:

Welcome to the board! Nice find you have there. All good advice above, I would add to check the brake pads, cheap and easy to replace when you change the tires. Also, it may not hurt to put new brake lines on her as well, not that expensive and worth the peace of mind.
Where are you located in the UK? I saw a beautiful 3rd Gen heading north on the M6 Tuesday but I was heading south. Again, welcome.
