New member....Should I make the switch?

Hello all from the Northwest corner of Alabama! I've ridden bikes for the last 10 yrs starting on a 883 sportster and after a Honda and yamaha back to a dyna streetbob. They are all cruiser bikes for the most part but now I've seem to have been bitten by a Busa bug. Being right in the middle of my 40's I had always thought I was too old for what I thought was a young mans (womans) bike. But after searching around on this site I see I'm not as old as some on here. I've read a lot of the "should I get a hayabusa?" post on here already but that is also my question. Should I make the switch from my 08 streetbob to a hayabusa? I know i'm more than mature enough for this bike so that kind of stuff doesn't worry me. It's the riding position and riding style I'm unsure of. Going from leaning back with hands reaching for the sky to this type bike riding position. Is is hard to get use to or does it feel comfortable right away? My wife likes to ride too and she Will Not ride without a backrest but I've notice after being here that you Can put a backrest on a Busa.

Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated. Oh I love the website and knowledge that is here. Thanks.

I was in the same boat, 43 when I got Misty. I had ridden cruisers pretty much all my life, It took about 3 rides to get use to the sitting position, You will learn to relax your wrists and your neck will be a little sore the first couple times but once you get use to it, it is actually more comfortable to me than a crusier, I had my Busa for about a year and then bought a Honda VTX as a commuter back and forth to work, When I got on the VTX I actually put my feet on the back pegs for a while because it felt so much more comfortable. Yeah now I ride it like it is designed to ride but the Busa still semms more comfortable, As for the backrest yes it is a possibilty.

Hello and welcome to the Org!

I came from an 883 Sporster myself. Truth be known, I do sometimes miss the upright feeling and the very relaxed posture from a cruiser. But the fun that can be had on the Busa makes me forget about that pretty quick. It's also a way-back machine. I'm 36 and I feel 10 years younger on the Busa, so if that's any help to you.

Personally, I don't like riding people on my Busa. It's a responsive machine that has far too much power and if your passenger isn't paying attention, you can end up in trouble. I suppose you can get a backrest, and that may help a bit, but I still personally dislike the idea.

Do what we do, ride two bikes!

Thanks guys. I was just wanting to get as much imput from people who have "been there, done that" before I make a decision. Lol on the 10 yr younger feeling. My 39 yr old wife make me feel 10 yrs younger already so if I got this bike I would feel like....25! Sweet!!

Where exactly in the Northwest corner? I am in Muscle Shoals. I might could introduce you to the Busa in person. Make the switch you will not regret it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm I already got the Busa, So now I need a wife 10 yrs younger,

Sure hope current wife understands

Welcome. No need to make THE switch at all IMHO. Keep the cruiser and add the Busa to your stable :)
P.S. I am 48 and also an HD rider (currently have an '02 RKC).

Welcome!
I started riding in 67 on a buddy's Honda 305 Super Hawk. I got my first own new bike in 1972, a CB-750. I have had dirt bikes, a new Honda CBX ( the Busa of it's time ) in 1979, another CBX in 1982 ( I still have that one and it is a Beauty! ). My K8 is my first sportbike. I have never owned a Harley, but have ridden several over the years.
If you get the Busa, you are going to love it! I was born in 1951, and have my Busa for two years. You are only too old if that is what is in your head! :cheerleader::cheerleader:

Harley's all my life. I will not sell a bike to get another one so I added my busa to the garage.. I love riding them all. Took me 2 weeks of soreness between the shoulders. I do find myself on the Busa more than the harleys in good weather. Different style of riding, so there is a learning curve.

Welcome to the board and best of luck in your decision!

PS I'm53...

:welcome: there are plenty of accessories to make the Busa the ultimate Sport Tourer IMO the bike is already the most comfortable but there is always room for improvement. Read up and let us know

Do both, it's what I did. I just couldn't give up my vstar. It's two completely different riding styles so if you can afford it why not?

If you can't afford it I would say look at your riding style and buddies and see what matches that best.

Welcome!!! hey im 45 and love mine... honestly though i would hate to ride 2 up on it or any sport bike really. you get used to the lean aspect. I bought GENMAR risers for mine. lifted the handlebar assembly up by 1 and 3/4 inches. That was the first thing i did. The best mod I ever did on it. HUGE difference in my shoulder and back area.
