New owner 99 Busa!

Long story short, I'm in the process of trading my 99 cobra and a small amount of cash for this guy's 99 GT and 99 Busa.

The busa looks pretty good, excellent condition. The Busa has Power Commander III, a tune from a great bike place here in town, KBG air filter, fill racing exhaust and an acropvic carbon fiber muffler. It's lowered, and comes with a nice cowl to go over the back seat. Since its a 99, it also does not have the restricter plate on it!

I'm also somewhat of a novice rider. Been driving a stick for about 5 years, and my buddy has been teaching my to ride his suzuki gsxr 750, and I got the hang of it real quick. Can ride all over town and control it, but some people are telling me "you'll kill yourself, the busa is too much power" and other says "learn to control it, you'll be fine"

Should I try to keep it? Sell it and get something for less and use the different to hook it up like a gixxer 600 or 750? and if so, how much should I be able to reasonable get for it?

Thanks. Hopefully i stay an owner so I can stay here with the forum (those are the pictures of it)

Fear the power, Respect the power, Control the power, Enjoy the power........until then...buy some gear, all the gear.

Take the MSF, then the advanced MSF, and ride that 750 for the next year.... :super:

Welome to the O-R-G....stay in touch and don't be a schmuck and die the first year of Busa ownership.......no, REALLY !!!!

Well, the truth is you already know enough - majority will advise you of not having a 'Busa for the first bike. Ultimately, it's your decision. Few people here had their 'Busas as first bikes, and they claim to be OK. I don't remember anyone who said they've gotten a 'Busa as their first bike and regretted it - this could be because no one regrets, or because they went down and too embarassed to admit, or they got killed.

It is ultimately your gamble. I'd say, unless you have a very strong positive feeling that you will be fine, get rid of it.

I personally wanted a 'Busa before I started riding (at 40), but knew better than that. I spent about 3 years and 18k miles on a used Katana 600. Even that bike can get a new rider in trouble. I am sad to say that I've been down on both Katana and the 'Busa I have now.

I think it's important to be honest with yourself. Would you get a 'Busa now if you had no bike at all? If the answer is NO, then you know what to do...

I wish you best of luck and staying safe no matter what you ride is. :beerchug:

Just to update everyone. I've had the busa for about 7 days now and been riding it everyday. I got it under control, and even opened her up a couple times... LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!

More pics soon to come.

First off :welcome:
second, I will not preach to you about being careful on the bike but will point out the obvious. YOU ARE AN INEXPERIENCED RIDER!!!!! Don't get a false sense of security(sound like my dad) and think after 7 days of riding you are ready to "open her up" The Busa is like a holding a stick of dynamite with a slow burning fuse. Just when you think you are ok and get comfortable is when it will blow up in your face. Take your time( a lot longer than 7 days) and get to know every aspect of the bike, not to mention the dangers of all the other drivers, teenage drivers, dogs, squirrels, etc....around that can "pop up out of nowhere" and take you down. just my .02
