New Owner with Questions--help!

First of all, thanks for the warm welcome to this site! How cool, this site, and all of you. I've had the new bike for 2 days and now have 177 miles, and have a few questions: #1: Does a Busa engine run really smooth at idle (my idle is set at a hair over 1,000 rpms which is what the manual says) or is there a slight uneven idle or slight "lope"? Mine seems to have a slightly uneven idle. It doesn't have a smooth purrr. Is this typical? Is it just breaking in? Does it need an adjustment? Am I just used to my super smooth BMW's? #2 Should I have any clear 3M tank or fairing protection put on? #3 Any wax and cleaner recommendations? #4 The manual says to shift to 2nd at 12 mph, 3rd at 19 mph, 4th at 25 mph, 5th at 31 mph, and 6th at 37 mph. Yeah, right. What the flip is with that??? Because I haven't quite been adhering to that "Shifting Schedule" as they call it.

#5 Any misc necessary advice for a new owner? Thanks a lot! (Enjoy the Beemer girls)

#1 Most I have heard have a slight lope, but it is hard to describe/define “slightâ€￾ in text. Excessive amounts can be reduced by synchronization of the injectors.
#2 I recommend something to avoid scratching it.
#3 I’m Pretty fond of Zaino products
#4 By actual GPS measurements I’m shifting to 2nd @ 78mph, 3rd @ 107, 4th @, 138, 5th @ 162……

#5 Read and absorb as much info as you can. There is a lot here that will help you out!

Thanks. Can someone give me more info on the kickstand mod--why and where to buy, and also on screens for the fairing--do they really protect the radiator and where to buy them. Thanks.

The kickstand mod is pinned in the "modifications" forum.

As for the idle.... mine does that, but it's not horrible. Only noticeable if I'm actually paying attention.

Shifting? Do you mean before or after 80MPH?

J/K.

I noticed a slight lope and fluctuation in idle when mine was new...it has disappeared with break in. There have been some incidents of the bikes rolling off the kick stand, as the kick stand stop doesn't let it go far enough forward to let it really "lock" in. Nic pic....BMW's apparently rule

(Towervu @ Apr. 30 2007,13:27) Thanks.  Can someone give me more info on the kickstand mod--why and where to buy, and also on screens for the fairing--do they really protect the radiator and where to buy them.  Thanks.
The best thing about the kickstand mod is it's price ... FREE. Take your grinder and basically make a groove in the kickstand for it to friction lock into place and prevent accidental tip over. The "How To" post will help you with specifics.
The screens in the fairings are mostly cosmetic. They have been reported by some to actually inhibit air flow reducing performance. For the average rider that won't miss the 1/4 hp being robbed @ 150+ mph it's really not a biggie to put them in next to the turn signals. The larger spaces on the sides are for exhausting heat from the engine. Most make them from screening purchased from a local Home Depot and form them themselves.
Working on the bike is almost as much fun as riding it! Let the obsession begin

Thanks again. I did search for the kickstand mod, but apparently not hard enough. I better get moving because my riding buddy below is waiting. (I wish)

The only time my busa just perfectly purrs is after a perfect throttle sync.
The rest of the time it lopes slightly, which is probably 98% of the time.

If you pay attention to how you park you're bike, you don't need to do the kickstand mod. Basically always point it nose uphill. If you have to park it nose downhill, then put it in gear and take up the slack before you set it on the side stand.

If you think you might screw up because you may not pay attention, then do the kickstand mod. I just don't like weakening the part that holds you're bike up.
