new problem

so i finally got my 2000 back together and now, after i start it, i can roll on the throttle slow but when i give it a quick twist it dies. I changed the filter in the fuel pump, apparently it had the wrong filter in it when i got it so i got the right one but now this problem has reared it head. a friend of mine said the pump was not building enough pressure and thats why its dieing but before i go buying a whole new pump i figured i would try to get a second opinion from the amazing .oRg brotherhood! im almost certain i put everything back together correctly but i guess its possible i didnt. Its not throwing any code and starts right up (though i probably need a new starter too). There are no new mods, again it is a 2000 and has about 35k miles on it. Starting to get disheartened, i love this bike but its really giving me fits.

Will do but it sounds great at idle and it ran pseudo fine before I started messing with the fuel pump

Run the pump in to a bucket and measure the fuel pumped in 10 seconds (I think) anyway the spec is in the Manuel. You can also check the pressure, but you need a gauge. I would not just throw parts at it without some type of diagnosis.

Make sure the lines aren't kinked, resticted etc.

i know i have a flow gauge somewhere! definitely going to get that bad boy out!! thankks for the suggestion pardini!

Fuel pressure gauge is not expensive and that's what it sounds like to me.

How long did this bike sit before you got her running again? Could be partially clogged injectors.

Could also be bad gas - water or crud in it.

Start the engine cold. Before it runs too long, take a rag and touch each of your exhaust pipes and see if any one of them feels noticeably cooler than the others. That would indicate either a clogged injector or a misfiring spark plug.

Can you ride it at all without stalling it? If you can get the bike rolling in gear with rpm up to 3000 or so, see if she has any power at all with gentle throttle. If you can ride it, pull the plugs afterwards. White plug would indicate a clogged injector on that cylinder.

Check the fuel pressure. If that is good and the gas is good, I would pull the injectors and verify that they actually flow fuel.

Good luck!

I remember reading where another orgster did this service a few months back and forgot to hook up the vacuum line at the top of the pump.

Or maybe the send & return tank lines were switched? What about the power to the actual pump...i guess if those were switched it wouldn't fire up at all.

My guess its something with the fuel pressure (or lack of). Sorry to hear about your troubles...

You beat me to it. I just went through the manual to be sure. Recommend you check all the vacuum lines, especially the line to the pressure regulator. Replace any line that is stiff and brittle. The lines are dirt cheap, but can be the source of much misery in a fuel system.
