New product possible....pricing suggestions

I would think that anybody that wanted a luggage rack would want the back rest in place for something to tie to. They even make bags that slip over the backrest and sinch down to it to hold it up. Having that 'spine' allows stuff to be stacked pretty high. I usually stack stuff on the seat and on the rack, then tie everything together around the pad. I also built rails into mine that attach in place of the tie down bolts, they make for a nice place to bungee to.

for 100 bucks, i'd get one for my wife. pm me if you're gonna produce them

Hey, jetsetter I really like your design, does it also mount under the seat along with the side mounts? I have never seen under the seat of a gen 2 :(

Thanks, and yea, it bolts to the same location the grab bar bolts to. The little tie down bolts on the side have an Allen head under the little black plug, they just unscrew and the side rails bolt in there as well. It's basically identicle to a gen I. My setup is made from 1/4" plate, 1/2", and 1/4" round bar.

I would say 100 bucks is a fair price. I would say that pricing them the same as the ones available for Cruisers would be fair. I bet my girlfriend would love me having one of these. I think it is fugly, but I would put it on when she was on ONLY.

I don't have cash in hand right now...but I ride 2 up a lot and would kill for
a decent backrest ONLY (No rack) for a decent price.

So yeah, you could put me down for one, backrest only prefered when funds
free up.

Someone mentioned mailing urself the plans and not opening envelope... That is a common misconception about copywrights and patents.. Does not hold up legally though. I just found this out the other day..

I never ride doubles but I would expect to pay around $90 for just the seatback, $110 for the seatback with fixed luggage rack and $125 for the seatback with removable luggage rack.

Just an update, I have been working on building the jigs so I can make these alot faster. I have ordered enough material to make atleat 3. Sorry if it seems I am dragging my feet I am only able to work on them every other friday. As soon as I get to building them I will post up the group buy. Didn't want to start the group buy without atleast 2 on hand.

Good luck, looks like you will do well.

I ordered one of the racks off ebay(cost about 100 after shipping), and started building a back rest. The wife said she didnt want a backrest, so I just bolted it on and scrapped the idea.

I think you've got a pretty good design going there.

The idea of a removable rack is probably a good one: some people will want to take the wife/girlfriend and a pack; others will just want the backrest.

As for pricing, just price it at slightly below the nearest competition. Never apologise for making a profit!

Also, I'd try and match the fabric with the OEM seats, so it looks like a genuine accessory.
