New shoes? I got questions.

OK, I know there is probably a thread out there somewhere but I am shooting off this post while I should be working so no time for searching.

I gotta get some new tires for the season, I got a almost bald Shinko on the back and a bald "whatever" on the front. Tax return is coming so I want to get something with good tread life but still grip well. What do you guys think? What do you have on?

I live in Seattle though and we do get a bunch of rain so keep that in mind for your suggestions as well.

ImageShack Links Do Not Work

Notice BALD front tire in crappy iphone photo.

(Also notice squiggly lines above turn signal, thats what happens to all photo's when someone plays with a lazer and an Iphone camera)

You are going to get a variety of answers on this one. I am personally going to try the Avon Storms next go round. At the moment I have the BT-021's on and I really like them. Tires tend to be a personal choice and you need to try a few to figure out what works best for you. Good luck bro.

+1 All depends on what type of riding you do, how many miles a year, your budget etc etc

I'm gonna need some tires soon too, any likes/dis on dual compound. I gotta get some better mileage outta my next set but dont know alot about them. Any feed back on the new Dunlop Roadsmart?

my question is can a 200 fit?

yes i have a 200 maxxis on mine as we speak i have had a 190 and a 200 you have to watch what tire it is some do some don't so... just be careful what you order

a freind of mine rides 60 miles a day round trip on his zx6rr had a set of pirelli super corsa's cause of the dual compound.. yeha didnt last about 2 months not including his otherriding. he went to maxxis...

for the price i would definatly recommend them this is my 2nd season on my set

If your not looking to do any real serious knee dragging or track days, just about any of the modern sport touring tires will fill your needs.
Only ones I've had trouble with were the Bridgestone BT-021s. Poor grip, poor feel, and poor wear.
I'm using a Pilot Road 2 rear and a Pilot Power front mix now. I've got about 3000 miles on them so far, and have been more than pleased with the performance all around.

I hate the Storms. They turn in real slow, like it takes more effort. It never felt right in the corners. Wear and stick were ok but my front tire always felt out of balance. IMO.

PR-CT'2 for me.

ok, you've almost got me sold on Maxxis but the supermaxx are w-rated (168mph) now I don't spend much time past 170 but I have spent some. What are your thoughts on reliability at high speeds?

Man you don't know me very well i have pushed them to my cut iff on the speedo no problem but you rarely ride that hard.. i had the set for 2 weeks then hit the dragon with them i like them very well another memebr got me hooked in them so for the prce you can't beat it i mean really 240 shipped ok so you use them for a season you dont like them it isn't like you spent 400 dollars on a set like pirelli's or dunlops

i used to be a dunlop supported until i bought these i shop around and get many opinions you have to with the economy so for the price bang for buck i think you will be very happy. motox is great to do business with i have dealt with them alot... i order tires for about 10 different peopel in town. never had problems with them so that is my opinion shop around if you want it is your body that is responsible and has to be held to it

Cool, I looked at Maxxis websit and I know they have a Z rated set as well. I'm going to ask them about tread wear on the w rated v.s. the zr rated. looks like i'll be going with maxxis though.

It's a misprint, the supermax is a z rated tire. I have ran them for years and buy them from Motoxoutlet too.

I love tire threads. Just means I get to post more pictures of my bike.

First off, 200 series will fit just fine, been running them for years, and no, I can't tell the difference even with hard riding despite what the text book says.

Buy for application. You do all sport-touring, commuting, weekend-warrior, wet weather? Some even buy for the look of the tire tread.

These are the Avon ST Storms. The sport-touring guys (me) love them b/c you can get great mileage out of them.

And you can do this if you need to.
