New Volvo Commercial

A few years back when Volvo introduced their SUV, they had a commercial that showed a sport bike rider, all black leather, appeared to be riding too fast, etc.

I just saw the new Volvo ad that shows a motorcycle passing a volvo on the right, again in all black, and thanks to the "Blind spot checker doohicky" (yeah, I think that is the real name) he is safe and doesn't clip the unsespecting and irresponsible motorcyclist.

I do not understand why Volvo chooses to protray us in a negative ligh yet again. Maybe I am just an over sensitive pansy.

And for the record, my car has a blind spot checker doohicky too, it is called me turning my head.

Brings up a great point...for all the gadgets in cars nowadays (Lexus has a model that parks itself), just how "good" will tomorrow's drivers be? Will Driver's Education consist of whether or not you know which light means "hey dummy, someone's in your blind spot!" over "hey dummy, turn your head to take a look!"

And what's with Volvo's new "icon" on commercials...the symbol for a male, is that what they're going for with it?

You have to remember this is JUST AN AD for Volvo ! They need to show the DRIVERS side for good Photo Accents. Which allows the Bike to pass on the passengers side while you can see both the rider and pillion partner looking

at the Volvo. I think it's a good ad for them. It shows it's going after the youth market and not just your Engineering-Nerd Old Professor market Volvo has been associated with

I still think it's funny that we're building cars to help us poor sap drivers DRIVE LESS

Oh, the irony...gone are the days of really operating a vehicle and understanding basic rules of the road

In my opinion if you need to turn your head then your 3 mirrors are not setup correctly. I've always felt the head turn was for those that don't know how to setup rear view mirrors. Sorry guys but setup those mirrors for better view

There's always a blind spot and I sure hope you don't drive around thinking others see you when you're in it!

Classic! Another ad for a slower vehicle not moving to the right! Not only that but it makes the person passing on the right look like the unsafe one! Why can't the person riding along in the left lane and not moving over for faster traffic get shown for being irresonsible/unsafe?

I get offended by the whole scare tactic thing, especially when it involves kids.Like you're an abusive parent if you drive a Chevy right?Michelin tire used have a couple ads that basically had DSS coming to take your children away if you bought another brand.Blind spot? Hell yeah. How many times you have to make a quick  dodge to the left  passing and look inside the car at this

It's all fantasy. If it were real life, they'd show the dent in the door from the rider's boot!

yep. ALWAYS a blind spot. ESPECIALLY if there's a bike there, it WILL dissappear.

You guys are getting into the commercial too much. Look at the new one where the UPS truck slows down and a panel of lights come on the dash to show the driver of the volvo that the truck is slowing. I mean, what kind of idiot doesn't look
SHOCKED.gif
out of his FRONT WINDSHIELD to see if traffic is slowing in a MAJOR downtown city

Done it! Then I drove off.

I have also allowed my crap bike (Bandit) be deliberately rear ended because some as$ was tailgaing me because he didn't like that I took the spot between him and the car he was following. So I popped the brake and let him tap me. I was hanging on for dear life (we were stop and go to a turn...) and I knew if he tapped me it would be basically 2-5 mph. He was about a step short of crying as I yelled at him. But it was his own fault for thinking he would "scare me". I've been hit. It's not that scary. In retrospect this qualifies as one of the dumber things I did.

But this is coming from the guy who threw a grapefruit at an RV who wouldn't let me pass in the middle of the Nevada desert... so maybe my lessons are not the best to be followed.

In response to the Volvo, I would be that a good 60% of the population these days doesn't know that you shuoldn't pass on the right...I would bet that you could poll people and they really would have no idea why this is a bad thing.

Too bad we don't do things like they do in Germany. Drive slow in anything but the furthest right lane, and they'll pull you opver and give you a ticket for it. And tickets in Germany are EXPENSIVE.

I've seen the Lexus that parks itself. The technology is coming but it's not here yet. You could park the car yourself three times and dance around it for twenty minutes before the self parking sequence is finished.
