Hi there, this is my first post , hi everyone! Been scrolling the boards finding all sorts of interesting stuff.

I guess i am real interested in getting a hayabusa in the near future. Picked up a 98 Fizzer this spring and i have about 3000 miles on her. Its been great for learning the ropes and a blast to ride. It amazed me how fast it accelerates, and i thought i was buying a slug ( it has full exhaust and jetted). Yet i can see myself outgrowing this in a year or so. Been through Advanced motorcycle training (to keep the parents happy, kinda came home with it one day)

Do you guys think it would be a good jump to step up to the bad boy hayabusa with a year or 2 of experience? Seems like most say its way to much power unless your a veteran rider. But id rather not keep buying 100cc upgrades if i can work with it. Thanks :super:

Wecome to the  Hayabusa world.
Most would say it's a big jump and not to do it, but I think it's up to the idividual.  Some young minds just are not ready for all that power, but some are. I know that a Katana was more than I needed when I was 20, but that's another story.  Just start out slow and get comfortable with the bike...you can make a mistake very easy with the Busa.  Just respect the power and wear your gear, it's a great bike that can get you in trouble fast!!

Ok, this is just my opinion, and someone will be along shortly to say exactly the opposite, but...

I think yer mentality and level of maturity has more to do with how suitable the busa is for you. Is it too powerful? Hmmm... Mine has yet to just start up, go wide open, shift through the gears and hit top speed all on it's own. It behaves according to my input, not according to it's power or capabilities. If I tell it to go fast, it does. If I tell it to cruise, it does. Is it more bike wide open than I can handle? Without a friggin' doubt.

Still, if I do the right thing, the busa's power isn't some evil force that just takes over it and causes it to do stupid things to hurt you.

So, are you mature enough for a busa? Will you hurt yourself through misuse of the busa's power? We can't answer that for you. Yer question is one that only you can answer. Course you'll still prolly get sum folks' opinions, just like you got mine. ;)

Thanks for the imput.

Ive done some stupid things on my 600 that i prolly shouldnt do, but how many of us get these for 100% casual riding =). I suited up with my leathers and stuff today and did my first baby wheelies (FZR600), takes a lot of oomph to get it up in 1st, youd think it would pop easier than that. Im used to being able to peg the gas and the front stays down and the suspention sucks up all the wheelie action.

Are hayabusa very wheelie prone at all, especially if i throttle down? Or does it take a quick high rpm jerk to get it up. Do they lift on a roll on at highway speeds?

Trying to get a grasp of these things power, ive yet to riden one

I never had a problem keeping the wheel down... but the bike before the Busa was a Gixxer 1000. It will come up in first with just a roll on the throttle but not nearly as easy in second. I changed my gearing so second would be just as easy. The hard part is not getting the wheel up but making sure you don't come down to hard...it's a heavy bike!!!

Ka thump, yeah 550 lbs is a lot =). Speaking of GSXR 1000, or a R1/ 999 ducati. hayabusa own these bikes in all catagorys? The guys i ride with , one has 1100 GSXR '03 , two of them have R1's. What should i expect to see riding with my buds. Will i own them or are they reasonably close? I kinda like that most extreme show where the fella says when "in 98 suzuki dropped the gauntlet" lol, i cant help but say thats what got me the bikes attention :)

Re-gear that bad boy and you will own all other bikes. I have 16/42 gearing and have no problems with any other bikes that have not had engine work!!

What is the general mods to get 200-220 horse? Is it real expensive, or work i cant do myself? And is that 16/42 gearing still 190mph able, what exactly does it do not much of a gear head ( no pun intended)

Dave just watch those back roads out in the Kettle Marane area. Lots of tractors that will pull out in front of you. If you drive it sane you will be fine.

A stock Busa has about 156 hp but with a full exhaust,PC3 and custom map you can get about 170hp for about $1500... 200+hp takes a lot of money,I wouldn't worry about that kind of hp any time soon.
16/42 gearing will top out at about 175mph but you will be so far ahead of anyone that you will let off the throttle before they can catch up!! 50-150 is a huge rush with that gearing.

Here you go Dave...

"Hayabusas don't kill squids, squids kill squids?" Or something like that :D .

The Hayabusa is a very civilized motorcycle, but it can do at least 186mph in stock form.

Your 600, however, could easily get you into deadly territory long before that (most accidents are in the 45mph area, single rider, blowing a curve, etc.). The bike isn't the issue, it really is the goo between our ears that matters. Whatever you do, don't let anyone convince you that:

(a) A given bike is "too little" or "too much" for nobody in particular (as opposed to someobody in particular). Most manufacturers make great, rideable bikes these days in all shapes and sizes.

(b) That you actually "need" anything like the 'Busa (or the ZX-12R, or the Blackbird, etc.) to get by. You WANT it. That's OK, though -- you're entitled to what you desire, are licensed to operate, and can afford.

If you want the bike, get it. Remember that it's heavy and the most trouble you're likely to have with it that you wouldn't with any other bike (such as your 600) is NOT blowing a turn at 160mph but doing a U-turn or getting out of a parking space w/o dumping 'er.

I.e., Please practice with the bike a little. If you want to have the most fun you can with the 'Busa, it will probably not be dive bombing in traffic or tight canyons with guys on liter SS bikes. It's better on a drag strip, a big track or big, sweeping roads. Those are a whole heap 'o fun.

I started out on a CBR 600 and after two years I traded up to the Busa. It is a big jump but if you think (the right thoughts) before you twist the throttle you will be ok. I had the wrong thoughts once and paid dearly. I blew a curve and hit a tree. The Busa will do what you tell it to do without thought of what you are capable of. That part is up to you and I am here to tell you STUPID HURTS. Be smart and all will be good.
Welcome to the board.

Thanks for all the imput guys, i think i see a busa in the future. Soon as that money rolls in anayways =). Damn i have to drive a forklift to make money to drive a Busa wtf =p

Go for it Dave! My first bike was a liter bike. Its all you, not the bike that controls safety. I just started twisting my wrist slowly until I was comfortable going full on. :super:
