I know this thread is out of place but a question always arises when the police are involved in any horrible incident...

I don't defend anyone it just disturbs me when people lay blame to the action of others on the police...

This is a run on from the thread "Captain" started about the two motorcyclist and passenger that were killed due to a police related pursuit...

My question is "How many of you think you could survive in a society where police did not exsist"

In Cinncinatti, Ohio a few years back the police dept. came under alot of scrunity due to a misinformed public...The street officer's developed a "No Contact, No Complaint" mindset and the cities crime rate increased dramatically over a short period of time...When resolve was reached and the police asserted themselves the crime rate decreased dramatically...

I've seen alot of over the years and unfortunately I'll see alot more...

How many of you have witnessed a victim take their last breath???

How many of you have witnessed a child die???

How many of you have been in the center of a blood filled crime scene and had to destroy your uniform from fear of contamination???

How many of you have cleared a building and been confronted by an armed suspect and had to fire on them???

How many of you have been to the funeral of a fallen officer that you had worked with just a few days before???

The questions could go on and on but there's no need...

I can only imagine how many of you that will respond to this thread, that have been a victim of any sort of crime and called for police assistance and prayed that a quick resolve be brought to your situation...

Some of you had tears in your eyes...

well I havnt seen much of that stuff, but what does it have to do with assuming responsability for high speed persuits and admitting they are wrong? if we didnt have police it would be the wild west all over again, survival of the fittest and we wouldnt have soccer moms running us off the road

I believe that Police, Firefighters/EMS and Teachers are the most important jobs around.
And usually the most underpaid.

Sucks, don't it?

Yes to all of those except shooting someone. God help us all if there is ever a time when LE does not exist. I think it is smart moving this to a new thread because it would, and quickly was devouring the last one. I have pretty much already spoken on this one though and will yield to others. Also a thank you to you and other LEO's! I can't even go on scene until it is secured by you first on some of these calls.

well said.....I've had to watch someone die. Not exactly the best thing in my life. It's just too bad that sometimes people don't realize the kinda work we do and the people we get messy with.

I agree with everything you said Stunnahbut, the officer that pulls me over in my truck for going 2 MPH over the limit, searches me and my truck, treats me like a 2nd class citizen, and is just a plain A-hole can ruin people's perception of law enforcement.

Having been through the above(and more), I still have the highest respect for the law and think others should too. Just a few bad apples I guess.

Why do you feel the responsibility is that of the police???Why is it that your perception is that the police were wrong???

I'll stop there...

Anyway I don't think that survivers of the "Wild West" were always the fittest...I never lived in that era but some of the movies I've seen portray the fittest getting shot in the back and dropping dead...

Watch out for the road rage...

Yeah there are bad police on the streets and it's sad...They get away with their disrespectful tactics for years until a citizen steps to the plate and voices a legitimate complaint, then their dealt with accordingly...

All but one of yer questions apply to me, bro... Been there, done that. Won't say which one doesn't apply to avoid jinxin' myself. Good topic, good question though...

The responsibility in chases should rest on the shoulders of the stupid fuggin' idiot that runs, not on the shoulders of the ones out there layin' it on the line... Holdin' the cops responsible is like blamin' yer doctor for yer cancer. He's there to try and fix the damned problem, he didn't cause it. Same goes for the cops.

sad world we live in

it would be even sader if there wasn't no LEOs

in any job or any group of people your going to find good and bad folks

just dont judge the group by what one person does

Ask John WHetsel the Sheriff of Oklahoma County if pursuits are necessary. John was called to the scene of a car accident here in OKC several years back caused by his officers in a pursuit. When he arrived on the scene he found out that his wife and young daughter were struck and killed because of the pursuit. John has been on several tv programs talking about this subject and he absolutely understand the need and the pain that can come from the pursuits... I have been a deputy sheriff, a patrol officer on a municipal PD, an intermediate paramedic teching the back of an ambulance, an assistant fire chief for 10 years and fire investigator... I have seen all of the things listed on the beginning post many times over... There is a need for pursuits, common sense prevails and sometimes you have to break them off. Being a cop on the street is hard to explain to people. You can't watch COPS or wildest police chases to get a real grip on what goes on. Sometime you have to ask yourself if you really know about what you are talking about. For those that have never experienced it or complained to an officer about catching the bad guys then complain about how the police try to catch them you dont get it..... Put yourself in the shoes of the local cop that gets beat down by the public everytime a child molester violates a victim, then try to put yourself in that same officers shoes when he crashes.... Would you rather the child molester go or take the chance on the pursuit, either way your gonna have to bite your tongue and deal with it you dont get it both ways...

Sorry cant go with ya guys on this one. Do cops have a thankless job you bet they do.
A good friend of mine was shot in the back 9 times by a gun happy cop He did miss twice as the guy drove a way. 11 shots fired. Still a little bitter on this one. Theres never a time I need a cop.

So, if one sport biker or rider in general for that matter violates a law and kills someone you know, will you turn on all riders?

dont judge a barrle by one apple

it think thats how you say it

hooken lets break down that logic to its most basic form... If you took you car to a garage to have it worked on and the mechanic was terrible and he tried to charge you for work he performed and he didnt even fix the problem, using your logic all mechanics would be poor is that correct..... Trust me I have met some officers that I dont know how they didnt shoot themselves much less shoot someone else... There are good and bad in everything try to not stereotype...
