Well this is a catholic university that invited Obama to speak and with his views on abortion and a few other politically hot topics, the catholic church condemned the honorarium and visit..

other top figures are now bypassing the University ceremony due to the issues...

Looks like momentum is building on the student body as well... More division in the future I bet..

The problem is the Notre Dam is a Catholic School. The Presidents agenda in many ways (abortion, homosexual perfered rights and legal homosexual marriages) goes totally against the Catholic Churchs stand and teachings. Therefore, many that support the School and are Catholic Church members feel it's not appropriate for him to speak there especially since his team has asked for ALL Religious references to be covered.

My take, if he goes, he goes. BUT, he shouldn't ask for anything to be covered. IT'S A CATHOLIC SCHOOL, what do you expect ?

And NO, I'am not a Catholic for those who are wondering.

I found a link: CNSNews.com) - Georgetown University says it covered over the monogram “IHS”--symbolizing the name of Jesus Christ—because it was inscribed on a pediment on the stage where President Obama spoke at the university on Tuesday and the White House had asked Georgetown to cover up all signs and symbols there.

“The White House wanted a simple backdrop of flags and pipe and drape for the speech, consistent with what they’ve done for other policy speeches,” she added. “Frankly, the pipe and drape wasn’t high enough by itself to fully cover the IHS and cross above the GU seal and it seemed most respectful to have them covered so as not to be seen out of context.”

Georgetown is a private Catholic institution founded by Jesuits in 1789. The auditorium where the president spoke Tuesday is adorned with religious imagery, but only the symbols directly on the stage -- those likely to be picked up by a television camera -- were obscured.


Lets not forget that he is the President of the US and speaks to everyone, not just us Christians. So stop making a big deal over a non-issue, there are plenty of real issues to get upset about.

Geezzzzzzzzz, I really don't understand your comments. How was I (just stating what the Administration requested) making a Big Deal out of this. Although, I can't recall anywhere a President has spoken and has ask that the symbols the School has showing should be covered ? I very much doubt he would do this anywhere else.

I think you might be just a tad touchy about what someone says about the President. Why, I have no idea, since he either did or didn't request it.
