Novice mistake

Pick up a 05 Busa at 5pm yesterday. First bike. Put all of 20 miles on it. It was a blast. Nice manners, smooth ride but EXTREMELY POWERUL.

Drove out of my driveway this afternoon, twisted the right wrist a little too much, panicked and grabbed too much front brakes while trying to avoid the neighbour's park car. The front wheel skidded out and low-sided. The front wheel stopped on the front wheel of the car I was trying to avoid.

My frame sliders saved my fairings but I have some brake/front end damage. Will have to get it checked out to determine how much damage was done.

I thought that this if I was very careful, nothing like this could ever never happen to me. Guess I was wrong. Anyway. I did not get physically hurt....only my feelings. Was still in the riding position when the bike settled. The frame slider may also prevented the left side of my body from touching the ground.

A smaller first bike may of helped you out in this situation but I don't think it would of helped a lot, not quite as responsive or heavy, but may of been better for this. Atleast you now know how to pick the busa up if you ever have to again, gotta remember to respect your ride at all times, it will bite you in the ass if you don't.
Glad to hear that you are ok though, how much damage did you get?

no diserspect meant, but since this is your first bike, have you at least taken a MSF course?

A Busa's an expensive bike to learn on.....

Thanks for responding. I took the MSF course two weeks ago and thought that it was invaluable. I understood what I learned and I try to practice it as much as possible.

However a 250cc in a controlled enviroment does not compare to 1300cc in the real world. I would have hoped to be able to do a more advanced course prior to owning the bike.

Regardless of my un-timely fall, I knew what I was getting into. I was, and still is, willing to take my time and learn to handle this bike properly. I will also sign up for the advanced MSF course after I complete 100 miles on the bike.

take the advanced course, but the best learning comes from real-world experience. just be careful; pretty much anyone can ride a powerful sportbike, just realize that they can get you into (or towards) trouble really, really fast.

I think the biggest danger with these bikes isn't the top speed, it's how sudden you can go from 30mph to 70...

there r 2 types of riders..... those that have and those that will.... glad u came out fine minus the ego beating... jus be careful out there.....

Like the instructors say, "Congratulations, you are now qualified to ride a 250cc motorcycle around a car park at 30mph..."

The real learning starts now.

Busa as a first bike... Yup that will happen. We tell you guys over and over... But u guys still get up. Sad to say this will not be fore last rookie mistake. Lets just hope next time you won't get hurt.

Stop riding the thing and pick up a used old bike and ride that for 6 months befoer you #### up your Busa again.

Sorry to hear. Not much damage, to the bike I mean. A hurt pride is much harder to heal sometimes.

You'll be OK...You made a mistake and you know what you did...Find a vacant lot and pratice all you can stop and go and wide turns...

well it happens. Somtimes its a more painfull lesson. glad ya came out ok

most people dont walk a3way from an oops , on a bike ! the busa will give you as much as you ask for and then some ! be careful ! if you want to learn on the busa take it some whereout of the way , no kids traffic , idiots ect.,ect.

Yup first bike... Get on, put up the kick stand, now throw it down on the left side. Stand it back up and throw it down on the right side... Repeat 3 times. Sell the bike, and buy another one. NOw take the key and up it in the ignition and repeat the above.

After that is out of your system you borrow a buddies beater 750 and actually start it up and go around the block..

Getting the idea of how to learn to ride?

Notice I did not mention an Busa or any new bike in there...

Rus,
You're killing me! Very true tho. Is it the beard that gives you such a good sense of humor?

Errrrr.

You have the right attitude. I'm not kidding ..... Now that the thought has permeated your cerebral cortex, Get back on it and have fun learning in BABY STEPS! The Busa is unlike 98% of the other motorcycles out there in all around characteristics mostly due to its sheer brute power and weight. The bike is VERY well mannered when asked to be and can blow the doors off of almost anything out there when learned how to handle her power. Gonna shut up now but PLEASE remember this ... Respect your Busa and it will treat you right. Think you have mastered it and it will kill you.

i don't know. don't think it matters how careful u are on this bike. without mucho cycle expierence u will get yourself into trouble quick. don't take much to hit an unexpected pot whole to cause u to goose the throttle.

Atleast you know where your mistake is and readily admitted it,live learn and enjoy.:)

Finally got the bike to the dealer.

Prognosis: I bent the right front rotor $275.00 and damaged the left frame slider $12.00.
To eliminate all statches, I could also change the front fender and the engine cover for an additional cost of $170 and $85.00 respectively. Add about $180 for labor and I would be in the $800 ballpark.

Chose to buff out the scratches from the fender and will probably just sand out those on the engine cover and repaint myself.

Thanks for all your responses to my post. All are greatly aapreciated.
