Nuetral to 1st gear issue

So I recently purchased an 08 Gen 2 from my pops and I can’t figure out why when I start the bike in nuetral and try to drop it into 1st, the bike dies.

A little back story… The last thing my pops did was put a 300 tire kit on the bike. Took it out to test ride it, everything went good… then the bike sat for a while. He went out to start it one day and couldn’t get it to start, bike wouldn’t go into neutral. I went out, we messed with it, got it into neutral, bike fired up so we assumed it was good to go. Bike then sat a couple more months while I saved the money to buy it. Since I got the bike I’ve replaced the GP Sensor and the starter. Figured everything was good and went to test ride it and that’s when I discovered the dying issue. I have swapped the kick stand switch and my clutch switch, still get the same issue. It was suggested to me that maybe the clutch plates were stuck from how long it sat, but I had the plates out to change the GPS and they weren’t stuck. I have started the bike and looked through the oil lid and can verify the plates are moving when the clutch lever is pulled in, but still every time I drop from neutral to first, the bike does a small lunge and dies.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated!

Try to start the bike in first gear with the clutch lever pulled in. If that works, ride the bike to get the plates wet. Pull the clutch lever in a lot and roll while moving.

Well, now I'm really confused...sounded like the master/slave cylinder wasn't working, but you can see them move with the lever pulled. Only thing I could suggest would be to lift the rear wheel and try it. See if A) bike instantly stalls with no load on the rear tire. B) clutch is working correctly and bike will work on a stand/without load AND you could test in other gears

Or roll the bike in first with the clutch in and start it and take off. A lot of these niggle little problems fix themselves after you've had a ride and a series of shifts etc. No machine likes to site idle for months and months.

Sounds to me like the clutch plates are not separating with enough clearance to free up and allow the free running (rather than engagement) of the transmission when 1st gear is selected.
If this is the case, then it could well be the clutch hydraulics that need looking at, servicing and flushing/air bleeding to improve the travel of the pushrod, enabling the clutch pack to free up the steel and friction plates from each other.
First place to start is with the clutch air bleeding procedure.
If it was me facing this issue, I'd be going over the hydraulics to gain maximum pushrod movement, you said the bike lurched forward a little when putting it into first gear, that's a clutch problem symptom, NOT an interlock (clutch lever switch, sidestand switch) issue.
Other possibility is the clutch basket and hub are heavily 'notched' by the plates, and the plates not able to freely move in the basket to release their grip when clutch fluid pressure is applied.
Did you notice any wear of this type on the 'fingers' of the basket and the splines of the hub when you had the clutch disassembled?
