NY homeless that live in the tunnels?

I once saw a show where a reporter went down into the subway tunnels and was interviewing homeless people that lived there. There were many many folks down there. Now I'm wondering with all these tunnels completely under water are those folks ok? Are they floating around down there? Has anyone even brought this up? I haven't seen anyone talking about possible rescue missions to go down and check for survivors?

I'm sure it's an issue to the local authorities, but it's probably not the sort of thing we're likely to see on the national news. You might be able to find something through the local media in NYC.

Prayers for all involved just the same... :please:

somthing tells me NY city has more things to worry about then homeless beggers living in the subways. I wud imagine NY city is focusing their efforts on the elderly without power who rely on respirators and what not long before the beggers.

I know some homeless ppl are there because life dealt them a chit sandwhich but most of the ones Ive seen are physically able to work but wud rather panhandle and get drunk every day.

if you can stand in the middle of the street for 8-10 hrs and beg for money then you can surely find a paying job and contibute to society. like most cites homeless ppl will be the last to get attention during a disaster.

I was wondering the same thing about those mole/Tunnel People, I use to see tons of folks there while riding the subway, it is like a city under there, RIP.

I would guess they knew something was up when the Grand Central Station got quiet.

I'm assuming they worked their way to higher ground once the warnings came. Either that, or the followed the rats out as the water came in.

I would say that they are pretty street smart and know where and where not to be during stuff like this. There are a lot of lazy bums but there are also some that life just crapped on them. I hope all are safe, no matter good or bad. Prayers go out to all that was in harms way.

I would think they thought they'd be safe down there. Probably couldn't hear any wind and thought it was safe. The show I saw the reporter walked like a couple miles into a tunnel and then went into rooms and walkways and all kinds of stuff. Like Fenman said its a city down there. I'm not sure they would have gotten any warnings? From who and how? I don't think anyone thought the water levels would be this bad? I'm just hoping there's not large numbers of them down there? Many could be trapped in rooms above the water line?
No matter their status they deserve just as much attn as anyone else. Somebody needs to realize this and figure out how to address it.

I'd like to think the authorities warned the people living in the tunnels, i hope they got to higher ground than there.
