It appears the challenger is building steam along with financial support. June's collection plates collected $71m for Obama and $106m for Romney. The gap closed slightly in July with Obama adding $75m on his way to a record $1B goal set early in the campaign while Romney raised $101m. Apparently the constant bashing of the wealthy 1% is having an effect on Obama's ability to raise money.
Romney on the other hand by raising $101m is on his way to breaking records in campaign contributions. As Harry Reid would say "The word is out that Mitt Romney may be the first presidential challenger in history to raise more campaign money than the sitting president"!
