Octane Level

I have a one month old '05 busa. The Owners Manual suggests 87 octance fuel. I have used 91 octane since purchasing the bike but wondered if the higher octance is the best for overall performance and serviceability. What do others think?

The pumps here are 85/87/91, if the pump is one of the shared nozzles, I use 91 since the first gallon could be leftover 85, if the pump is a dedicated nozzle per grade, I will use the 87.

I was curious about the regular grade recommendation also. Someone else said that the Bus can get away with it because of the small displacement per cylinder. The smaller (than big Vs) pistons have a smaller "wave front" or some such. I use the 93 octane because I'm so deaf I'd never here pre-detonation, and 5 gallons is a cheap fill anyway.

If you do a search for the word "octane"...you'll have a lot of reading on the subject.

I use 87...even at the track...no problems

Hmmm, this seems to come up about every 3-5 months in all the forums....

Check the past threads/polls ----> 87 is all you need... Unless you have an unlimited budget.

I was wondering about this myself. I've been using 93, just because i assumed it would be better for it. I'll fill with 87 next time. Thanks for the info.
