warbird i have been looking at vpracingfuels.com they have a unleaded fuel motorsport 103 they are saying how more octane can slow a vehicle down but they also say that this fuel wont over octane a vehicle check it out see what you think

VERY good reading busa2. The reason it wont "over octane" is because of the very high oxygen content. Looks like a very high quality product from a very high quality company. They have been around for a long time but I have never viewed their website. I will try that 103 in a heartbeat. A good mixture of that with pump gas once in a while will really help keep your fuel system clean. Or if you dont travel long distances you could run it all the time.

this fuel is for motors with 14 to 1 compresson ratio, not under 12 you'll get no gain and why do you think it would keep your engine cleaner than a fuel designed to clean an engine sitting in rush hour traffic? Ray

hey kawabunga 9 where exactly did you get your info . i have a test on this fuel with a tl getting about 2 to 3 hp. next it has the best cleaning agents money can by. 3rd. where did you get your info on 14 to 1 at . it states that you cant over octane it .

Hi Ray. This isnt race gas. Its a street legal gasoline. "For street legal cars that are driven to and from the track,Motorsport 103 makes a great all around fuel."
"Motor sport 103 will not over octane an engine."
" It is designed for use in high performance street cars, boats, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, motorcycles and high performance import cars."
"Motorsport 103 is equipped with a very effective [expensive] detergent additive to keep injectors, carbureters and intake valves clean. This detergent package is an important part of the fuel,as clean injectors are important for power and throttle response, and will lower the octane requirement of the engine. Motorsport 103 cleans intake valves that are important for maximum airflow for maximum power."

Those are quotes about their fuel Ray. Sounds like a pretty well thought out product to me. Since it is street leagal it must have to meet the same requirements that all commercial fuels meet. Its "expensive detergent package" may be better than whats in pump gas, it may not. Im just reading. And learning.

Anyway busa2, it looks like something I would certainly try. Judging from the racing sanctions they provide fuels for, I would say a person could certainly believe those cleaning agents ARE the best money can buy. Very important. I dont think commercially sold fuels use such high quality cleaning packages as this or else you wouldnt see so many clogged injectors and screens.

Where did you get that info from Frank? I have the VP Brochure and have read all the info on the site and all it says is that the C-12 has 108 octane, is recommended for engines with near 14:1 compression and will satisfy 75 to 80% of todays race engines. Besides, this is what Lee had in it when it dynoed those numbers so it can't be all that bad. Also, what engine do you know of that has 14:1 compression with a 8,500 rpm redline? It must be a diesel!

I'm using the VP C-12 and it's designed to run in vehicles close to 14:1 compression (I have 13:1) and it's relatively inexpensive. I haven't dynoed before and after but the stuff smells stronger than any race fuel I've ever encountered... I bought the 55 gal. drum for $230.

warbird bought 5 gallons of motorsport 103 today seems that a dealer 8 miles from just got some in i'll let you know how it runs

Thanks warbird---jezz, surely they have a distributor for us old hillbillys up here in tenn. If not, there is a relative of my wife's who makes, I mean, has some stuff that would make that vp junk look like kerosene.

busa2,thats great! Only 8 miles away. I bet it will work great. How much was a 5 gallon drum? Guess I'll hop over to the VP website with earl and see where there's a dealer near me.

HA! Your funny Earl. Hey where are you at in Tennesee? Im in Kentucky between Frankfort and Louisville. My friend lives in Clarksville. We go there to visit often.

I be down here in Oak Ridge---man there is some great riding up around Brushy Mountain prision. I went up to Huntsville last weekend then over to 75 and down---great ride. Good dealer up in Huntsville. Has 4 12r's he said he would make me a deal I could not refuse. HA!!! Said he could not keep even one busa in stock---come on down---lets get together.

You got it Earl. I've got get over to see Falcon Fool, then up to see Busa2 and down to see you. We have some GREAT riding here too. [I hardly EVER see a cop where I ride] If I did he'd just say DANG!! What the hell was that?

hey warbird sorry about the delay in responding but i've been out... I was going by memory but sport rider did a report on this and a few other fuels with the fuel reps involved (commenting as it progressed)I think they were commenting that 14 to 1 was the target ratio for this fuel. Also folks are comparing the busa's ratio with a car or something slower reving (less cam bleeding of comp.) that would requir more octane. The busa has a med effective pressure. Ray

hey Warbird the test report I read said of the VP 103 "Once again the octane doesn't translate into more power...This fuel should be used with an engine with higher horsepower and compression to take advantage of the octane available. At 4.75 per gallon the gas is pricey to be feeding it...for negligible ganes recorded" just passing this along to ya. the increase was .3 of a horsepower over the 104 crap in a bottle that you buy in discount auto stores. And in spite of the high sounding number on paper (when we compare with what we have been seeing for years in door slammers)these ratios are not that high considering the camming and rpm they turn. just adding a couple cents more Ray
