We actually acquired him yesterday...added to the office's "Wild Kingdom" of lizards, fish and some red-bellied toad

We don't know what kind he is yet...leaning toward a baby black racer because they look similar as juveniles and are prevalent here...

Sucks typing with one hand! He won't get out of my other one

...no kidding!

We won't have him too long...hoping to see him thru winter and then let him go...

(heavybusa @ Oct. 26 2006,11:42) How does one come across such a pet?
Guys at our County garage found him...they heard we are housing a zoo here, so they had him for a few weeks then handed him over...

He/she will be okay...we've already contacted the Parks and Rec crew and they recommend that we either go ahead and let it go now so it'll have a chance to hibernate for the winter, or if we want to keep it through the cold, we contact a local park in the spring and see if they'd like it since it'll be somewhat docile. They could use it to show kids, etc...

Just a hint of knowledge about pet snakes .....if you don't "handle" them a couple of times each week , they basicly lose the docile attitude . And if U have anything on your hands that smells remotely like food ....Watch out when reaching in the tank to grab him .

I've had a few .

That looks like a Burmese Python. Should grow to about 40 feet in a few weeks.

Blah blah blah...he's not a mamba...

We've narrowed it down to either a black racer or a rat snake...if it's a rat snake, it happens to be the only snake in VA that gets over 6 feet long...

No worries on the lack of handling him; we seem to have a lot of interested employees around here that keep taking him to their desks...
