like a dumbass, i forgot to put a crush washer on a minute ago. will i be good to go until next oil change when i can throw another back on there?

If you took the old one off replace it now. If the old one is still there you are good.

i have $40 worth of oil in the bike. id rather not have to catch it and redump it. what are the chances that it will leak?

Probably not much chance other than a drip...I use the old one with no problems, however with none at all I would get a clean pan and drain it to fix the plug.

Even if it were no danger, a leak would bug me to death...

Hate for something drastic to happen~!~

Way I figure it, anything that holds oil in is a vital piece~!~ ???

(If you don't want to drain it back out and refill, run it a few minutes and see if anything is dripping...sometimes it won't leak until it gets good and hot and higher RPMs)

I hate to think twice about it, but I don't specifically remember one either...that's why I stated I haven't changed it before...

But if it supposed to have one I'd make sure it's installed, just sayin

Do you remember taking one off~?~

Now I need to go take a close look

I definitely didnt take one off... I planned to change my oil when i get back to the bike in early nov so i need to probably grab one of these crush washers in case one isnt there..

Are you sure the old one was not there when you put the plug bag in?

Unless you scar the old washer, you can use it for the life of your bike.

The OEM crush washer will crush down and look like part of the shoulder on the bolt head. I had to use my dremel to cut it off. Then I just bought a pack of the copper crush washers from AutoZone.

My brother-in-law forgot to install the crush washer and almost went down on the interstate at 70+mph. Let me tell you, he'll never forget again.

If the oil plug weren't in line with your rear tire, i might say don't worry, but you shouldn't be worried about leaks, be worried about gushes when the plug vibrates out and you end up sliding down the road on an oil slick. If nothing else, loosen it slightly and put a bead of locktite on it. It may be a pain to remove next time, but it's better than being pavement pudding.

i went ahead and had my son stuff his finger in the oil drain hole while i tossed one on. lost maybe 2oz of oil. topped it off and now we are back on the road. lesson learned: one project at a time. i was installing vmware inside while oil changing in the garage. just got sidetracked....

Better to be safe and keep the wheels turning the right way instead of always having to worry about it~!~

I actually used to wire tie mine all the time, need to start doing that again

I'm super anal retentive about maintenance on my vehicles . I'd be freaking out . But then my wife thinks I'm nuts for using a clay bar,and refusing to drive/ride a vehicle 1 mile beyond an oil change interval . I have issues .

Good move, crush washers are cheap I keep extra's and make sure to throw one in each oil filter & box sitting on the shelf. Now, did you use a torque wrench when you re-seated that plug?

"had my son stick his finger in there"
Priceless.
I have to write that down as reason #311 why I had Adam.

Glad you got it sorted out.
