Oil filter

Yeah, according to Suzuki's service manual you are supposed to give that bad boy one full turn after the filter gasket makes initial contact... Which is contrary to everything I have ever heard but yeah, I gave it one full twist after contact which is REALLY damn tight, sounds like you did just fine. Just be really careful now with your drain plug, thats the bastard that you will strip out... Oh and remember to apply a film of oil to the threads and gasket of your new filter before installation...

Uhhh. kids...

The filter says 2-1/2 turns after contact. Definately more than I ever saw but there are pretty fine threads ont he filter.

Yup, 2 turns after initial contact here - in the manual I think.
The suzuki wrench is a must, you're just gonna scratch something or frustrate yourself with anything else. Get your local dealer to order one in, mine cost me 45AUD (ripoff) but hey I need it. Just position the drill hole vertical then round twice from there .. done.

damn i keep getting good info....

I just did the first oil change last night. I did 2 full turns after contact like is says in the manual. I used a K&N which has a 17mm nut on the cap. Very easy to install.
Thanks for the foil idea, it worked great!

Oh damn... I had my Filter Torque wrong...

Still, it just seems incredibly wrong to me when putting on the new filter. I mean I still prolly gave it 1.5 turns but it's just contrary to what I grew up with... Anyone know why Suzuki wants it so tight? Or do they just like it rough...

I mean just about all the other maintenance I have done on the bike has involved using force I have never used before when working on a Bike or a car... I mean removing the side panels really requires a creepy amount of force as well and after practicing the whole "Don't force things" successfully for years it's a pretty contrary thing for me... Especially on my bike...

It's an o-ring type gasket that collapses, unlike the "usual" oil filter gaskets, which don't.
