Hi all -
My Busa uses about 1/2 quart of oil every 500 miles (10,000 total miles on bike now '03).  It's not leaking out

 - is that normal?  Does the oil light ever come on?  I let it go a whole quart low - but the light never came on (light works at startup).  The way my last bike worked the oil light would come on at about 1/2 a quart low - so I'm not very well trained at checking it.  I know I should do it at least once a week & I'm going to start that this week

My bike 02 does not loss oil so I think yours should'nt too. Regarding the Oil light it will come on once your bilke oil level  is 1 can less , I know this cos the light did come on on my bike as I did not fill it up after  installing  the Turbo . Added one more can and the light went away

The oil light on a Busa is not a low oil light, it only comes on if you lose oil pressure pretty much entirely- a very bad thing. Don't rely on it to indicate oil level. You should only see it on before startup-it should go out right after the engine fires. If it ever comes on while the engine is running, stop the engine immediately and find the cause.

It's usually too late by the time the light comes on.  As far as adding oil, I have 8K miles and have never had to top up, I change the oil every 2k miles.  Half a quart every 500 miles seems like a lot to me, you'd probably smell burning oil at that rate, either that or you ride around at redline alot.

Too true- emphasis on "immediately".

I guess I'll pay really close attention to it for a couple weeks. Can't believe it's burning off that much oil - it's not like it's smoking or anything.

Let 'er eat!, as far as my knowledge goes... a healthy engine should never consume oil, even if you are topping the RMP all the time! The only time you need to change your oil should be when its old and the viscocity of the oil has changed. My recomendation, please get your bike checked...
Just my .02, hope its of some use

My '03 never had to be topped off, ever. Something is not right with yours, or you have ragged the engine. No way should it loose that much oil in such a short time. No way no how. Either it is leaking out and you aren't aware or it is burning it.

Hey Let 'er eat!, I have an 03 as well, when I first got the busa the bike was running too hot it seemed. Like cooking me lol. The bike shut off twice while cruising (found out later that it was the low idle) and the oil light came on (just as it should when the bike is off But I did not know that.

So I took it carefully to the gas station, got oil and put the whole quart in. The bike seemed to run cooler. everythings fine. Maybe 2500k-3000k miles I checked the level and it was low, I put 2in and this time I am watching it before I put my pure synthetic in. seems ok now I will know for sure in 1 months time.

The bike is definately not burning it, or smoking, can not find a leak anywhere, though I did not look too hard. Bike was pretty new too 5k miles on it when I first received it.

I will wait to see what happenes with this oil, EVERYTHING seems to be fine else wear, does your bike emit heat like mine? or when its hot out side the bike gets really hot?

That is what my bike was doing before I had the rings and valve seals replaced. It would smoke if I got stuck in traffic and it started getting hot. If it's under warrenty get it fixed if not do it yourself. Total cost for mine was right at $1000 parts and labor. Parts were about $450+-.

Yep, this is what I'm thinking (NOW)....  Wonder what caused it (besides driving it like a hayabusa).   If I need this I hope the warranty covers it...
