As soon as I figure out how to get the faring off I am going to attempt my first oil change at home. I am looking to get some feedback on types of oil to use. I have always been a synthetic fan but I was told the clutch would slip?

I gave the stealership the same look you just gave this thread.. Could not believe they would not want the extra money...

Is this true and would I have problems with Mobil1 or Syntec?

Thanks ahead of time for your input...

Plenty of opinions on oil out there...I've used both, never noticed any problems with either...I've only tried Valvoline Durablend synthetic, but hopefully someone that's used Mobil1 or Syntec will chime in...

Have fun with the fairing...that'll be your headache, but after a few times, it's old hat...

Good luck!

If your going to go synthetic Go ALL the way. The Semi-Synthetics are mostly a waste of money as all oils are to some extent Semi-Synthetic.

I recommend Silkolene pro-4 Plus, or Motul 300V Both use 100% ester basestocks which are true synthetics and will actually make a difference in how your bike runs/works. No Shid

I'm not going to fight this out, Esters were originally developed for Aerospace applications and actually work much better than just about anything else in every way that really matters....

BUT

THey are spendy and they are probably overkill...

Which means they are perfect for the Busa. Don't mess around with the Semi-Synthetics or the Inexpensive PAO's and Cracked HydroCarbons... Mostly they are just more expensive...

Plan on spending about $11-15 bucks a litre. Bonus is, you can run them about 5-7k miles without worry.

...anyway, I've changed my oil on my busa since I brought the bike home BRAND NEW, the 600 mile oil change, every 2500 miles since...champion oil changer here and no problems with any of the "cheaper" stuff I've used, no reusing filters, no willingness to go over 2500 miles without cleaning him out...sure, it's a Busa, but it's still a 4 banger, not a V-12

Oh yeah, and as I type this, I recall that I have used Syntec twice...only reason I didn't buy it this last time is because I couldn't find it on the shelves in two stores...gave up, bought whatever

One thing I will admit willingly is that in a healthy hayabusa and most any Internal combustion Engine you can get away with running damn near anything including mineral oil if it's changed often enough.

THe Full Ester Synthetics are just something I have found that works freaking great, but it could be considered overkill given regular operating conditions.

I use Castrol R4.

OH one thing though, you do want to use a bike specific oil. The BS you hear about "Any Oil" just isn't the case. Motorcycle oil is allowed much higher levels of certain oil additives that work wonders in the Tranny and other areas that cars cannot use for emissions reasons. Also, remember most of your decent Automotive oils contain Moly additives and other "energy conserving" additives that can give your wet clutch fits.
