Got the Suzuki plug n go Speedo Healer today, FINALLY. Now, since electrical isn't my bag, how about someone helpin' me out a little here. I can follow the instructions and install it with no problems as long as the wires on the bike match what the instructions list (colors). I'm also clear on needin' "insulatin' tape" to secure the connections since SH doesn't have access to the proper connector housings yet. To clarify though, is there a difference between "insulatin' tape" and good ol' black electrical tape? If so, what kind do I need?

Second, where did you mount the SH box. I'd sort of like to put it under the hump but I'm not sure the cable is long enough to reach. Just lookin' for ideas on where to put it. I'd like to keep it somewhat handy.

I've already used their online calculator to get a starting point adjustment. Now I need to get this thing installed and set it according to gps. Pics to come after the install...

Actually I just got back from Home Depot gettin' some supplies. I'm about to do the install. Since i haven't got any tips yet I'll just figure it out myself. Pics later...

You didn't mention if you got a custom (remote switch wire) unit or not, so I'll assume you didn't.

I put mine in the hump. If you do this, then you'll want to wire the hot directly to the battery (use a fuse). If you don't do it this way, you'll probably won't be able to check the max-speed feature, and here's why:

If you wire it up per the directions, the hot is switched. So, you have a fast run, and you want to check your unit. The unit is in the hump, so you remove the key in the ignition, and open the hump. You press the nice button, and guess what, no max speed. The reason, you killed power to the unit when you removed the key from the ignition. Battery draw is minimal, so there's no problem wiring straight to the battery.

Definitely use electrician tape, and I always use split-loom tubing. It's good for heat resistance as well as abrasion resistance.

I have a GPS unit for top speed readings so the button thing isn't a huge deal. I may hard wire the whole thing in instead of usin' the connectors SH put on it before it's over with. If I do that I'll wire directly to the battery for the power source then.

Meant to say, I do want to get some wire loom and wrap that sucker. Forgot to get any at Home Depot while I was there, though...

I think you'll be surprised at the "cool factor" the max-speed function has. Anyone I've shown it to has always thought it was, well, cool.

I use a GPS as well, but there's nothing like seeing the speedo sweep to the last max speed.

Hey, what's the best way to hard wire a 12v source for my gps? It came with a cigarette plug but I want something more vibration proof so I want to hard wire in a connection usin' the supplied cord. Should I just come off of the battery posts with a fused hot and just ground to the negative post? As I said before, I know very little about electrical shid. If you could tell me what I need to get and how to hook it up I'd appreciate it. I'm thinkin' I'll simply cut the cigarette plug off the end of the cable and hard wire it to a power source. cigarette plugs are shid for vibration prone mounts like a bike from what I hear...
