What have you been using for penetrating oil?
wd40, silk ease ( or something like that) and a multi purpose freeing oil....What have you been using for penetrating oil?
thanks for your help, in the end i used a skill saw borrowed from a friend, managed to brake the blade on first use lol, but got some more and cut the headers off, i have managed to get most of the studs out now, just 2 remain whats left of them, was trying to avaoid the drill and tap situation, but looks like the last 2 are in for the long ride with a drill!!!!!, whats more to add insult to injury, even the bolt under the engine played up to, the enclosed nut decided to come loose so took me an hour to just get that out...this bike is fighting hard lol.....Based on your photos you have a tough job but I still think it’s doable. I would take a sawzall and cut the other pipes out so you can get to the bolts and cut the heads off them so you can have something sticking out to work with, then use the beeswax method but you need to use acetylene because the trick is to get the stud hot quickly as not to melt the aluminum, a brazing tip will direct the heat on the stud without the flame flaring out so much, turn the torch up for quick heat and turn the stud red hot quickly but not orange or white, remove the torch and start applying beeswax immediately and keep applying till it stays wet, let cool to the touch and give them a try. Onother method is ring them off, center drill and tap. If you mess up the threads I would install time certs in all the holes or needed holes, you can buy a time cert kit any size from Amazon or eBay or Goodson Machine shop supplies, good luck!
yes nintastio, there are 2 with the same issuethankfully i managed to get the remaining bit of header pipe off without too much damage, although the cracks still have to be addressed, i have some alloy weld rod that will be used on them bits, just want to get it back on the road, but its putting up a hell of a fight....I'd be careful removing those pipes, it looks like the head itself has started to crack in this picture? I've seen where the port has broken when removing the header from corrosion.
Well what a complete f@~@@~~@@~ mess...everything was all done ready for the maiden voyage rode up and down the road 4 or 5 times to make sure nothing was going to fall off ( me included) and lo n behold....my rear brake seized on the disk and snapped the bracket on the swing arm, spun round and cracked my carbon hugger so now purchasing another swing arm grrrrrrrrr .............................this machine is cursed....View attachment 1655206as you can see new headers fitted, bit scratched nowbut they are on, also new rad fitted as well....yey I can see the road ahead is going to be goooooooooddddd!!!!...oh and repaired the head as well, cant see it to well
