On a diet

If any one is interested in dropping a few pounds from the Busa here are a few suggestions.

- Remove the air feed into the exhaust.

- Remove the Thermofan (if you don't ride in city areas)

Now if you want to spend money -

- Get lightweight aftermarket fairings made.

- Get a nose cone made which eliminates the headlight, that thing weighs a tonne.

- Remove the dash assembly and replace with lightweight tacho.

- Put on Akrapovic full system

I have made the above modifications (for track purposes) and have saved around 18kg.

If anyone else has any other diet ideas for the Busa, I would be grateful. (I know, lightweight wheels, but do you know how much they cost?)

The Akrapovic is a 4 into 1 system.

On our models down here we have an emission control that takes fresh air from the airbox and feeds it via a one way valve to the four exhaust outlets. It is designed to add extra oxygen to the exhaust gas allowing it to make a complete burn an emit carbon dioxide instead of carbon monoxide. That is the theory anyway. I think!!!

Because I use this bike on the track, emission controls are not mandatory, so I removed it.

Hayabuser, In the suzuki tech school they said you could remove that complete assembly with no problems...except meeting exhaust gas emissions test....quess they are not doing that at the tracks yet...LOL

Hayabusa,

Thanks for the Jenny Craig regimen for BUSAS.

I was wondering what is the purpose of "air feed into exhaust".

Ok, I should know but, is the Akrapovic "full system" dual exhaust or 4 into 1?

Suzuki shop says changing to a 520 chain and sprocket says big unsprung weight -- they claim 8 pounds! Have taken it up two teeth to raise low speed RPM a bit, smooth out jerky fuel injected power delivery in low speed corners. Will be delivered in two weeks [along with revalved fork, Ohlins rear shock with hydraulic remote preload [for a quick dial-in when my wife climbs aboard.

Terra1 where did you buy the shock and how much did they charge for it, was it a parts wharehouse or a suspension specialist who sets up the shock for you weight, load, speed, etc?

What other products did you consider?

Yes, I removed the airpump, check the thread on "airbox modifications", I have explained how to do it there.

Read all the posts because I think I explained it in two or three posts.

Weight saving is minimal but provides good access to the headers when removing or fitting them.

Purchased the shock for $1000 including [8%] sales tax. Bought it from Lee's Cycle Service in San Diego, a Suzuki race shop. They sent the forks out for re-valving, when they come back Lee's will set up sag for my weight, and I'll work progressively on set up with them -- very nice, knowledgable and helpful people [talk to Jeremy, parts specialist at [858] 541-2080. I considered the Penske shock, but when I showed up they had received three Ohlins for the 'Bus that day, two were already gone and the phone was ringing -- I wanted the hydraulic pre-load adjuster for two-up rides, and I could smell backorder, so I popped for it. Not very scientific [or cheap] but the 'Bus is a bargain to begin with.
