just got my 04 in december she still has 0 miles. its depressing! the bike ive always wanted and now, due to real life issues i may have to sell her. i feel like crying. i think i may talk to my wife some more and see if the busa can be spared. we need to do budget cutting in order to get a new house. i havent got as far as an asking price but does anyone have any ideas. its all stock abd i'd let my jacket, chatterbox, 3 helmets go too. i suppose i should hope for the best for now. i'll post soon on what our decision is.

Bummer... I've been through that in years past but somehow always managed to make room for a great ride. If you want it enough, you'll find a way--compromise something else, 2nd job, 3rd job, armed robbery... No, not that!

If, like me, riding is part of your mental health therapy, your lovely wife wouldn't want you to "go postal" from Busa withdrawal. Would she?

Yeah, If you really want it, keep it, fight for it right up until it starts affecting your family then of course you have to do the right thing...

Get a second job at a bike shop or Home Depot, Hell new house your going to need that employee discount.

Otherwise, if it is truly in brand new condition with 0 miles you should be able to get right around $9K for it anyway. It might take a little while cause folks are going to be skeptical but come spring time it should move right on out. If you have a dealer that you know well you might want to see what they can do for you, sell it on comission or something like that. Hell if the wife would go for it I would buy it... Only thing better than a Busa is two Busa's.... or is that Busi?

Anyway, Post it for sale here on the board in the classified section, post with pics, and name your price, be sure to post on them other Busa boards as well. Maybe get a another board member in the area to come check it out, you know verify the whole thing, provide an endorsement if you will.

Good luck, it's a sad tale, hopefully you can find a way to keep it, just remind the Wife that a Busa is a far sight cheaper than therapy... worked for me...

I am in total agreement with Rev (it seems that I always am though...). Anyway, I sure hate hearing of your predicament and I hope that you are somehow able to manage your finances in order to keep the Busa. If you need moral support or a letter of importance written to the wife...we can accommodate ya. Good Luck!!!

Been there done that kept the bike and increased the WORK LOAD. Smart decision because if you give up everything while you work to get a house (a trying experience at its best) is gonna work your nerves and you are gonna need that busa/stress release on more occassions than not. Tell your wife you would love to give it up but because you would become miserable to live with without it you'll just take on more work and keep the busa

I work two jobs... My primary job's pay check is direct deposited into our checking account, I never see it. the wife uses it for running the house.

I then have a computer consulting business that I run after my normal working hours, late at night, weekends etc. This money is used to pay for my toys, it pays for my motorcycle payment and the insurance and anything else I want.

I have my own bank account for my side business so my wife pretty much never has to deal with anything about my motorcycle.

I have almost always worked two jobs, my dad has worked at least 2 jobs and some times three jobs most of his life.

You don't have to lose the Busa, just depends on how bad you want it.. But the family should always come first.

I feel pretty lucky that I have a skill that allows me to do what I do, but I think anyone can probably do stuff on the side to make extra cash. If you are good with worknig on motorcycles, do it as a side job, start off with doing tune ups for people, if you are good at construction, advertise in the paper, you would be amazed at how many people need walls textured (which is easy to do) or toilets replaced.. etc...

And the best thing about the second job being your own business, you can work it around family schedules. Where as if you get a second job working for someone else, it will most of the time take away from spending time with your family

If your second job is your own business, you can usually schedule jobs so they have the least amount of impact on your family. AND you can take family vacations and never have to worry about trying to get vacation time at the same time from two different employers.

My dad always told me, if you can find something you enjoy doing in life AND make money at it, you are 90% ahead of most people in this world. So I have been blessed, I enjoy working on computers and that is what I do for both my jobs

Decide what you like doing in life, figure out a way to make money at it, and do that as a sude business

And before anyone even STARTS, NO HAVING SEX AS A SIDE BUSINESSES it is illegal, so that doesn’t count as something you enjoy AND you can make money at muah ha ha

Don't give up the Busa, make more money that pays for it and doesn't affect the household

I started having sex for extra money to keep mine and then the old women started getting smart and got the paperboy to do it for free. Now I beg two days a week for the extra money. Just rub a lot of dirt on ya and leave you fly undone, they feel more pity that way, lol. Nah, just kidding but, I do hope you get to work it out and you are able to keep it.

donate plasma or sperm a few times a week...... that can bike some extra money in and it only takes a few hours a week.

Keep the bike tell the wife to take a hike.
Whats with this family 1st stuff???
If your a true hard core biker you can't live without your bike.

Actually Big Pun, Thrasher has a good idea, not only could you maybe get a second job, you could also set up your own business, that way there are a lot of significant tax write offs available, and when you get into your new home, you would be able to write of a percentage of you mortgage payments based on the square footage of your home office. Additionally you will probably need to have some form a business transportation, I smell a 2004 F150. Of course a modern business cannot run without a good computer or two, and you will prolly need a cell phone, not to mention you might need to wine and dine clients, all of which can be written off your taxes. Just something to think about.

Best of luck with your problems. Do what is best for you and your wife. The bike is a big investment the money may be better spent somewhere else. MY .02 cents.

sorry to hear.. i have been in the same spot before .. had to pay some bills off and had to sell my other bike for the betterment of my family ... and now i have recently bought my busa. it was the best decision i could make. FAMILY FIRST TOYS SECOND. YOU CAN ALWAYS GET ANOTHER BIKE my .02 cents.

I agree with all the guys. It take some Gutts,Money,Desire and some Balls to get a HAYABUSA .Not too many people can do it because of different things. When you get one KEEP IT.Tell your wife how much you LOVE your BUSA. I am sure she will understand ,and she might even tell you what to do  to keep it. Like  you getting a 2nd or 3rd job. or Cutting down extra expenses like eating out often, going out clubbing ,shopping ,etc, etc ( drugs,Pot,Alcohol) too (kidding) As the man of the family do your part .Make some desicions. decide how much of a difference your busa makes towards a home.(In santa barbara it doent make too much)  communicate with your other half. For every question there is an answer close by.

Good luck Buddy.I hope you get to keep her.

Are there any good websites that go into detail about these types of write offs?

If things are that tight with the house, save some more for the house. Chance are that it would be tight and a struggle. The bike will not give you that much gain in income/Dept balcance with out it. Keep the bike Save some more and use a bigger down payment in a year.
