Yesterday about 7:00 PM I injured my leg. I didn’t want to spend a few hours in the emergency room so I wait to make an appointment with my doctor this morning. Well, the first available appointment with my doctor is in 10 days so I say I will see who ever is available.

I go to the clinic and hobble through the parking lot at a blazing 10’ per minute. The doctor comes in and pokes at my leg a few times and says, “Looks like you tore a muscle in you calfâ€. Here is a prescription for pain killers, do you need anything else? Well, after thinking it would be nice to get up to 20’ per minute without falling, I ask for some crutches. He leaves and comes back with a sheet of paper and tells me the check out station will help me with the crutches.

I make my way to check out only to have the person there give me another sheet of paper with a telephone number and address on it. I asked if they didn’t have any in the office and she tells me they are not allowed to give them out any more. I look at the address and it’s about 15 miles away. I asked if there was any place closer only to hear this is the only place you can go.

I make my way to the medical supply place and am greeted with a warm smile. They take all of my paper work and tell me to have a seat. After about 20 minutes I ask what is taking so long. They tell me they have to process the crutch prescription with my insurance and it may take about an hour. 30 minutes later a guy comes and tells me that the paper work went through and asks where do I want the crutches delivered to? I say no where I need them now. Then he tells me they have to get some from the warehouse and it will take a few minutes to get there.

45 minutes later the receptionist tells me she will check on what is taking so long. For some reason I watch her walk to the offices in the back. I stare in amazement until she returns to tell me the crutches are on their way. Even though she was semi attractive my amazement was not with her beauty, but the display of about 20 sets of crutches she walked by to go check on my crutched. I calmly asked why I was waiting for crutches from a warehouse when there were so many a few feet away. With a cute grin she replied, “I was wondering how long it would take you to ask me thatâ€. She continued to say that those crutches were for their retail business and I that was a commercial customer and they couldn’t give me one of those. Only the pain in my leg surpassed the anger I was feeling at that moment.

About 20 minutes later a familiar face walks through the door carrying packages from the warehouse. Apparently my son’s best friend is a delivery driver for this medical supply place. He asks what I am doing there. Just as I start to tell him I have been waiting for a pair of crutches for 2 hours, the receptionist asks him where are the crutches that he was supposed to bring. He tells her no one told him to bring crutches. They go back and forth for a minute with her blaming him for me having to wait for the crutches and him explaining that there was no order for crutches. Then he asks why they didn’t just give me some from the back.

Can you imagine the look on my face or what my blood pressure rose to when he came out of the office area carrying two sets of crutches? After that I could only nod my head to answer questions. I suppressed all speech because I know the words that would come out of my mouth were not going to be nice.

Its only going to get worse.Clinics are privately owned normally so its sheer lack of professionalism.I normally like the walk in clinic because its fast and to the point but that isnt always the case.

OMG!!! I am normally a patient person, but I think that would have pushed me over the edge. Good for you keeping your cool.

You know brother, it's times like these that I think about the police being called and I really have to bury the monster. It's at these very moments that my wife starts giggling and ask me what I'm thinking, I always reply nothing and she laughs and says I saw the crazies, what were you thinking, and I confess. There's a reason people go postal
