Out of Storage

Hi all,
Tried to search this but could't find answers to some of my question, may not have been using the right key words.

My bike has been in storage for a couple of years, it was not my intension for it to be so long but it was. I believe I did everything correct; changed and put fresh oil, filled tank and added stabil fuel treatment, and got the wheels of the ground. What I'm concerned about is the length of time.

What's the correct procedure to wake her up?
I remember reading to remove the plugs and drop in a tea spoon of oil, turn the motor over a few times (plugs still out) to lube the cylinders and then replace the plugs. Should I change oil before or after this step?

I also plan on changing the battery as it's the original one and it's an 07. The gas tank will come off to drain the old gas and replaced for new.

Of course I plan on going over the whole bike brakes, clutch, etc., but my focus now is correctly doing the engine.

Thanks in advance..........

id have no issues with starting it up as it is. just watch the red light on the dash make sure it goes out within a few 5 seconds of running. when starting my bike after a storage i just make sure i let it idle untill full temp has been reached. i dont like to rev it untill the oil has been fully warmed. u should have no issues.

i would follow the above advise adding maybe be real careful of the tires.

I personally would drain the tank and throw new fuel in. It's not worth the $20 to gum up the injectors. I siphon mine every spring and run it in the lawnmower.

Drain the old fuel and refill with fresh and about 1/2 a bottle of seafoam.
Check the tire pressures.
After warming it up change the oil and filter.
After 2 years you are also due to flush the coolant, brake and clutch fluid.

My bike came out of storage of at least five year so I wanted to be thorough. This is what I have done.

Repack bearings in steering and swingarm.
Rebuild fuel pump
New Suzuki fuel lines and clips
Replace air filter
Rebuid calipers and masters with all new Suzuki parts
SS lines for brakes and clutch
New chain sprockets and tires. -1 in the front
Sync and clean throttle bodies
New battery
Clean and lube all pivots
Flush coolant

And clean it up real good. I'm probably forgetting something ???

What about those with old tires .... : like mine from 2006

Would you replace tires that are almost 8yrs old .... I thought yes and bought some Michelin PR4 for mine

damn good maintenance but a bit on the overkill side!
