Overheating problem

My bike was running on the highway and I then realised that the temp shot to the red.Later found out the right fan blade was jammed. The left fan was routed to a switch but the temp still shot to the red....... and the battery went flat with the fan running

talk about bad day.......

Bugsy how about tell us how you attached your second fan to the radiator. I have one lying around but haven't installed it yet. Thanks

The second fan was installed on the right side of the radiator. My mechanic wired it together with the stock fan, both will turn on at the same time. Both are fitted with muzzy fan blades. The second fan was a GSXR750, got a good deal through a great buddy "Sleeperbusa".

I found out why my bike overheated.

Some b**tard used a screwdriver and poked a hole at the fins where the second fan blade was.

Now waiting for my replacement to arrive.

You guys might want to read the posts about header wrapping. It really works. Anyway the fans don't have much effect at freeway speeds. They are only useful in slow traffic or stop-and-go. I can sit in stopped traffic for 10-20 minutes in 100 degree heat and not get much over the center line on the temp guage with my header wrapped and an otherwise stock cooling system/fan setup. You see the headers are about 3/4 inch from the radiator and oil cooler/lines. They cook the radiators instead of cooling them. If you don't believe me, try holding your fingers the same distance from your hot headers as the radiator. It'll burn ya.

That depends on your climate. Folks out in SoCal wont corrode to bad. Would be rusted through in 2 years here in okinawa.

i have an akro full exhaust and my headers have been wrapped since 00. i had to take the wrap off and replace it about 3 months ago because it had deteriorated due to water and such. the header looked just like new...no rust or anything. how do you figure using the wrap will rust the header pipe?

you fix the 2nd fan next to the original fan. i used a gsxr750 fan...u cant use another busa fan because its to big for that side. you need to fabricate a way to bolt it to the radiator...i couldnt find anyone to weld on aluminum so i jb welded the fastners to the radiator...havent had a problem with the jb weld. you wire the 2nd fan to the oringinal then u put a 15amp fuse in place of the 10amp. i wired a switch to the lip of the left inner fairing to activate the fans when i want.
