Well i've been searching for a better deal in painting and i wanted to know if you would let a car company like MAACO paint your bikes? I talked to them and they said for 6 pieces it would be about 300-500 bucks. Does anyone have any expierience with this or should i keep looking

Man, I wouldn't let Maaco paint my kid's wagon, have tried to use them in the past for some stuff, never worked out....However, I have been associated with many "car" body shops that were great. The two I use for the dealership repairs here are good, I would let either paint my busa. Unfortunately, on this subject, you get what you pay for....anyone worth a dang knows it and seems to charge accordingly.

1100 bucks for one color just doesnt seem to fitting

ill see what else i can find

My experience with Maaco is they do not do any prep. They just shoot what you bring how you bring it. The paint is also very poor quality.

Would not use a spray and ride company...However I have used an auto body shop...Had my partners bike painted for $350.00 two tone...Just needed a good buffing and it looked new...Search around you should be able to find a good shop that can do it for 3 to 4 hundred...

I agree, places like these comes down to the individual sprayer for quality. But I've heard their prep work sucks. Have a local friend of a friend who's got a body shop who will ship stuff to macco when he's to busy to spray. He completely preps the car himself and trailers it there and specifies who he wants to shoot the car. I've seen some of the jobs and they are pretty good, but he has said let them prep it, and its sh*t.

I have come across some pretty good body shops that I would let paint my bike. Maybe, in the near future, I'll be calling upon them to do so.

Dang man, That is a tough call. Aint no one got less money to throw around than me and I dont think I would let a car shop paint my bike unless they could show me some of their work. I have been looking for two years up here and aint found anyone I trust to touch either of my babies.....

i had all my paint work done at the dealership I work at body shop.. they even WANTED me to be there to help get the stripes exaclty how I wanted.. we spent 5 hours with the bike up on a lift and the body work all installed getting all the lines exactly where I wanted them..

course I have known these guys basically my whole life so it's a little easier to trust em'

the paint came out exactly like I wanted.. no weird places or anything. it's been done a year now and zero problems.. course I don't expect any. they used all the flex agents and junk they were supposed to and it's got dupont materials all over.

cost around $1700.. I saw the materials lists with actual costs (not the retail.. the COST) out from it. He told me this is what the materials costed.. now you figure out how much our time was worth and we'll go from there.. so I just doubled the material and paid em'.

doesn't matter how cheap it was if your not happy... same thing applies if your happy.. doesn't matter how expensive if it's exactly what you want.

i'll attach a few pics.. just cuz i like to post em.. and it may give you some idea of what $1500-$2000 should be able to get you.

bout the best shot i've got of the metallic..

i can't remember the number involved.. something about grams.. or 1 gram or something.. I dunno.. I know it was double what would be the normal amount if they had been painting to match factory on a 04 chev cavalier (thats where the orange color came from..)

this one was after I got all the stickers an stuff back on (or all I am putting on it anyway) in the sun so you get a better idea of the real color..

in the first shots the orange is alot darker than it actually is.. it matches pretty close to the orange SE with alot more metallic and copper pearl in the clear.. which never shows up in pics that I've seen.

i hate when the board resizes pics.. it's makes the lines look all blocky and stuff.. they aren't of course. very smooth and clean.

the only thing I wish i'd done different was brought some of the white/gray onto the nose piece somehow.

I just couldn't think of way to do it and have it all still blend together well.

Ego,

Oh man, I aint budgeted for a paint job until next year...... Your Killing me!!!!

That is one nice paint job.

How long did it take from start to finish??

thanks.. seems people love it or hate it.. hehe

hmm, best I can remember the whole deal was a little less than 2 weeks. I took all the plastics off the bike and dropped them off on a monday.. the got everything prepped, primed and painted orange then I brought the bike in the next monday and got started on all the other stuff..  got to drive the bike with no muffler at all for a few miles.. holy #### thats loud!

your bike warrents a 1500+ job i just want one color and i want to put some decals on myself and then a clear coat. Definately not 1100 bucks worth of painting i dont think.

Him i think total Kaos will do painting for like $750 and that was everything to match factory paint just check them out i just looked again on the website and had no luck finding it but give them a call or email them and see if they still do it for that

The answer is yes, I would let a car shop paint my bike, They alreay have, TWICE!!!!!LOL!

Him,

If all it needs is repainted with one color, I would do it for $400. That would be a basecoat-clearcoat, and I guarantee it would look better than anything from Maaco.

If it needs bodywork, it would be a little more.

You are about 1 to 1.5 hours from me.
