This bothers me - dont take offense please...I just get high on Toblerone once in a while

I tried a friends 2004 R1 with an aftermarket exhaust and it sounded fantastic...from the sidelines...the moment I got on it - I didnt really notice the sound or pay attention to it.

This really bothers me because this dood apparently bought the cans because of the sound...and who gets to enjoy it? ME!!...from the side of the road...

Anyone else here fall into that bracket? Mod the bike purely to flare the senses of all the people who eyeball your ride?

My reason for getting an aftermarket exhaust would be - performance. The sound is really a non-issue when I have my ears clogged with either earplugs or Shure E4 headphones...belting out Gipsy Kings "Soy!" just as I enter a wooded area of scenic beauty

All said and done - I question these "sonic" and "visual" treatments from a viewpoint of someone who once (stupidly) disconnected his car's radiator fan in order to free-up the engine some more ahead of a big race...car seized up all right

Hey...I was 16 and VERY stupid at the time

I dont buy it for me to hear it... i buy it for the looks, performance and so that OTHERS can hear me!

I bought CF Muzzys for the looks and the price was right. The sweet sound is just a bonus. Yes.. I can here them while riding also.

While I would like to get a good can, I do enjoy the stealthy sound of power. When you have a pipe every cop within distance can hear a bike ripping around. Im going to keep my stock for a while.

screw the sound....and the perfomance gains are only half of it...the other and bigger half fore me was losing 30+LBS of bike weight going from stock exhaust to a akro race full systen with (1) CF cannister...and for bonus points?...it's deeper in tone and has a far cleaner growl but...it really ain't that much louder than stock...whenyou're just tooling around...or cruising...as she don't scream until ya wind'er up pretty hard...and even then?...it's not a loud scream...but losing that stock exhaust weight?...completely changed the character and handling of the bike..front wheel gets light quick..thanks in part to both more power and less weight...flickability improvement is markedly noticable as well...as in...in your face...immediate improvement..and that's ALL thanks to the "Less Weight" thing annnd..

If it don't make it lighter or faster I won't throw my money at it... Busa already looks awesome all on its own... minus the stickers and reflectors of course...

Look and performance are the biggest concerns. Sound is a distant third and primarily only so that others can hear me!

+1 -
I hated the stock exhaust look, and really liked the devil set up. Saved weight, etc. Never really eaven thought about the sound....
I like the looks - that is good enough for me. I have done the cosmetic mods to Bessie that I have because I liked them - - I ain't entering her in a show, so I do what I like, if others do as well, then great, but if not - she's mine and I don't really care...

+1 on the lighter, faster. Heavy & louder just does not do it for me. Full race Akrapovic Titanium is my choice to cover that spread. Its easy to tell who has done what and why.

Getting ready to lose another 4 pounds of rotational mass switching to BST wheels. This bike can't get light enough for me. Lighter, faster, smoother. Yes, it's a Hayabusa.

something I have to say almost every day.

I feel the same way about just installing a set of cans. Visually I don't care for 99% of aftermarket cans vs. stock and they do nothing for power. Stock cans are simple, elegant, symetrical and clean looking.
One thing I don't get are the guys that get their bike looking like a work of art...everything matches and flows perfectly in all the right places. Then they buy a helmet and riding gear that matches the exact color scheme of the bike. Everything is perfection but as soon as you look at the bike your eyes are drawn to that azz ugly advertising decal in every color of the rainbow slapped on the side of the cans. Equivalent of buying an Armani suit and wearing a Tazmanian Devil tie with it.

Complete exhaust would be the exception since you actually get a HP increase and huge weight loss. Pricey but perfect for someone who races their Busa.

If it makes you feel better you didn't blow the engine up from disconnecting the fan. As long as a car is moving you don't need a fan. Umm...unless of course you removed the fan blade belt that also ran the water pump?
