Phoenix kidnappings

A news clip I just caught says that Phoenix had 370 kidnappings in 2008. The only city in the world that had more in 2008 is Mexico City.

Very sad since the national media has completely ignored it.

I agree, it is terrible but it raises some questions.

Who is getting kidnapped? With a number that high there has to be something going on. With it being so close to the southern border is there a connection between what is happening in Phoenix and Mexico City?

I'd like to see a few more details on this instead of just numbers. While the numbers are terrible I'm thinking there is a whole lot more to this story than just numbers.

wow, do they talk about the nature of them? (domestic etc)

Apparently the 300 number only represents about a third of the kidnappings and almost all are related to illegal immigration. A new policy that allows an officer to contact ICE directly has reduced crime in the Phoenix area greatly.

according to the head of the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association.
In the past year, there were 359 kidnappings in Phoenix, and not one was legitimate involving a truly innocent victim, said Mark Spencer
interesting quote... sounds like the press is bored again? :)

+1 I was thinking that there is more to this story as well.

I was thinking that there had to be a tie to illegal aliens.

Hey, were trying to build a fence but the "loopholes" only allowed 32 miles in 3 years!

Hutchison’s 2007 amendment neutered this language. It said: “Limitation on Requirements.--Notwithstanding subparagraph (A), nothing in this paragraph shall require the Secretary of Homeland Security to install fencing, physical barriers, roads, lighting, cameras, and sensors in a particular location along an international border of the United States, if the Secretary determines that the use or placement of such resources is not the most appropriate means to achieve and maintain operational control over the international border at such location.”
