I was supposed to be dropping off my bike to have my undertail and hugger installed... there was NO WAY I was doing it myself. Dropped off my bike at 9am, 2 hours later the owner of the shop calls and tells me that the guys who was supposed to do the job called out sick. Oh, and is was going to be at least a week before he can get me in there to do the job.
Before leaving to pickup my bike I PM'd brandanp and told him I had gotten screwed. He PM'd me back and said "Bring it to my house, we'll do it here". Generous; but I couldn't ride an hour in the half AND carry my undertail. Brought the Busa home and started cleaning her for a ride. I decide to start taking a few bolts off here and there to see how hard it would be to remove the rear cowl. A few minutes later is was off. Called Brendan who had done the undertail install himself on his 06 and within a few minutes he had me convinced that I could do it myself. I had a dremel so I mentioned it to him. "Do you have a sawzall, that's what I used" he said. I thought to myself, a friggin sawzall on my 194 mile 2006... not me! Once again Brendan encouraged me. Next thing I knew, sawzall in hand, I had chopped off my stock garbage. About 8 phone calls later to Brendan... job complete! He walked me though cutting by finding some great instructions on the Hotbodies website for me, walked me through the wiring, what bolts and epoxy to hold the nuts I needed to get... and about a dozen other things. What a guy!!! Absolutely, positively couldn't have done it without him... thanks buddy!!
After that I installed my hugger... took me a grand total of 10 mins.
Bottom line is that I would NEVER had imagined that I could do this. And I hope this encourages others who are intimadated by stuff like this to take on the job and save some money doing it themselves. I took my time and double/triple checked everything to make sure it was right. And I had the phone support of a buddy who didn't mind a helping me out on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The end result was not only a major improvement to my Busa but also extremely gratifying because I did it myself.
The undertail is a Mototeck with the upgraded 48 LEDs.
PROS:
1. Fast delivery direct from Mototeck. Custom painted phantom gray.
2. The LEDs in the daytime are actually brighter than my stock lights, which surprised me.
3. Looks beautiful.
CONS:
1. Color doesn't match perfectly like I had hoped... slightly off but "almost" unnoticeable".
2. My LEDs occasionally flicker when idling and I traced the problem back to wiring directly at the LED board. The board is user changeable, so I'll call Mototeck in the AM and I'm confident they will correct the problem.
3. If I want to correct the fast flashing directionals I'll need to buy a new flasher. Mototeck mentions it in the directions, BUT not on the website. IMO I would think for the price it should have been included or at least mentioned on the website.
Hugger is Roca Design with extended chain guard from Extreme Graphics
PROS:
1. Fast delivery direct from Extreme Graphics. Custom painted phantom gray... matches perfectly.
2. Easy installation.
3. Quality design.
4. Looks beautiful.
CONS:
None!
