Pipe bolt removal (underneath)?

I'm installing a centerstand (don't start.. lol!)

Anyhow, the bolt that holds the pipes on under the bike.. at first I thought it was stripped. Then I noticed there is a bolt behind some flanges.

How do you get that off? Jam something in to hold the bolt from spinning? Seems like an odd setup.

the bolt that holds the mid pipes on ? the nut should be crimped to the other side of the clamp . should be able to back the bolt out and pull the pipe off. if the not is spinning on the other side the mid pipe will rotate and should provide better acces to the nut .

I have a center stand on my 'Busa and I like it, much more convenient than a rear wheel stand.

What johnstein said as far as getting that bolt out.

One hint, it's possible to fit the center stand without removing the complete exhaust system. If you remove that bolt that holds the pipes on under the bike, it's possible to use a cheater bar to lever the pipes down enough to get clearance to insert the center stand bolt. I was able to do it without any assistance, saved me the time and hassle of unbolting the headers from the engine.

The bolt must have been a little seize since when I loosened it it flipped down the lower flange so the bolt just spun in there. I was able to fit a 17mm wrench on it and get it out (top of wrench was on the top flange, lower was on the bolt).

Anyhow... I got the centerstand done.. it sucked putting it on, but worth it. If I would have followed the instructions except for header removal it would have been cake... but I didn't take off the lower fairing bracket first and couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the stop bolt in... there's a flange on the bracket that goes into the hole where that bolt goes through.

Ugh... needless to say it was no fun... but now I could do it in 1 hour.

It was good practice to get to know the bike, though! well worth it when I see it standing SECURELY up on the centerstand instead of fetting about the sidestand!
