I have an RS-3 Carbon pipe on my bike, and I am wanting to make it shine a little more as the heat seems to have worn off some of the shine. What can I use on the pipe and be safe about it.
The clear surface layer of carbon fiber resin can be polished smooth like most plastics using a fine buff, plastic rouge, and very light polishing pressure (you don't want to overheat and melt the resinous surface layer).
I polish BDE carbon fiber mufflers frequently and they shine nicely with a wet-looking finish. Here's about what you can expect:
Dang!!, that looks GREAT!!!! Can you give a little more specific details and instructions??? I hate to sound dumb, but I dont want to mess up a good pipe!!
TIA

Thanks! I pioneered the polishing process of BDE/Hindle Carbon Fiber mufflers and your question reminds me of someone asking The Coca Cola Co. for the ingredients of their soft drinks.
I use a 1.5 HP pedestal polishing motor driving a variety of types and grades of buffing wheels and rouges. If you want to polish yours, warm the decals with a hair dryer and carefully peel them off (not to save the decals but to NOT scratch the CF). If you don't have access to a polishing machine, don't try it by hand because it will be glacially slow!
If I could be of further service to you... Polishing Link
