Bought a brand new outta the crate 2002 Busa.
Got 1300ks on the clock & this is what I am not too happy with
Fuel consumption: 280 klm @ 120KpH tank is real empty..no thrashing or aggressive riding.
Pipes look fine( nice colour inside) just damn thirsty....can`t be right can it...My carbied GSXR750 was better than this with hard riding.:30:

Fuel pump : Damn loud ...sounds like a turbo whistling away

Clunk: When riding agressivly say wheelies from first - second there is a clunk when i lift it up in first its there for a second then a clunk that you feel & other people nearby can hear...does it in second too ( fairly loud ) like the chain slipped but its fine well tensioned lubed etc.
I can feel this around the gearbox area

Speed limited: I was told by dealer that bike wasnt limited but went against a mate on a GSXR1000 2001 model & he walked past me ...rolling start at 120KpH then about 300KpH @ just shy of 10,000rpm it stayed there....disapointed

Noisy brakes : the pads sound like they are just rubbing on the rotors when no brake applied at all just a soft hissing sound

If anybody can help me here with solutions to these problems It would be appreciated

Oh yeah ...damn thing jumps outta 2nd to neutral too when under a hard load like doing a wheelie not all the time ...also did it in 3rd
I lowered the lever action thinking I wasnt engaging it properly but she still did it.
Whassup with this ?
:hammerhead:

Gotta tell you very very uncool

HQ - have you got any other busa's near by you could talk with or ride to compare? Do you have a lemon law where your at? And finally the GSXR 1000 is a very fast bike but you should be able to out power it, was your new bike break in done properly?

Is that city riding or a constant 120 on the highway for the entire tank? Normally, 260-280 is about where the 'reserve' light would show and 320-380 is about where you would run out of gas... assuming that is 120 from the time you leave the gas station to the time you stop.

Expect around 270 for light city riding and if you are doing wheelies and hard acceleration for even a little bit, 240 is about what is expected for a tank. Remember, this is 1300 ccs, not 750, expect to consume more fuel.

On the fuel pump, this is normal. The pump is in the tank, as with all 2001 and later models, and will make noise as it is not insulated as the 99/2000 models are. This is normal.

On the speed, note that you dealer, as with most, is a frickin' moron. 2001 and up are limited. The guy with the 1000 probably had a TRE to remove his limiter, gaining a 'theoretical' 5-11 kph.

On the brakes, also normal, especially if you have aftermarket, harder compound pads. Consider floating rotors if this bothers you, otherwise just live with it. It is normal.

On the shifting, pull up on the lever completely. You are just missing the shift and knocking it into neutral with hard acceleration.

No other busa`s in town makes it hard .Hopefully I am going to a track day soon so I may chat to a other owners then.
Not too sure about the lemon law but I know that we have pretty damn good consumer laws so if she drops her lunch on the road I will be covered.
Yeah the 1000 is quick & its got the poke too & yeah I did my break in period as recomended .Always stick to their guide lines
Thanks Mate

Yeah that hwy riding I work 250klm from home so I ride there stay for the week & ride home I do run her up & down a bit (rpm) this was when I ran it it.
Most the time though I look after my licence so steady steady is my theory ...so far.
Iwork out bush & I live further bush so yeah it`s just service station to Service station. All hwy , a little round town.
I guess i expected a bit better from it I know its bigger but it carries a bit more fuel & I rode the other bike harder.

I kinda expected this to be the case but I dont mind the sound actually i like it but I just needed to be sure it was normal else I would get it replaced.

The 1000 does have it removed (he is my house mate )
I just didnt want the prick to walk on past me ...this isnt what the busa was built/ advertised and sold on.lol

If thats the sound the front rotors make from new * its the common thing & it wont kill me fine the sound stays ..wont hear it in a few months anyway .

On the gear neutral thing ....I am not so convinced but thankyou very much for giving me some feed back
Onya mate.

Narcissus pretty much covered it, I'll just add some comments.

I also have a new '02.

I also wondered about the front brake pads making noise during coasting, but have found that a light grab of the front brake for a brief moment usually makes the pads seat just a little different, and it stops making noise. Or else I just ignore it.

The gearbox on mine seems notchy too, but I've only got 400 miles on it. It's ready for it's first oil change, I'm hoping the synthetic oil will improve it, at least a little.

As for the mileage, I don't worry about it much, the Busa is just my toy to play with, not commute anywhere. And the fuel pump whine... I kind of like it, actually.
