"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. "

I remember that in school (1990-1995ish) we had to do this every morning in homeroom... then it just stopped... I wonder what happened?!

My kids say it every day in school and Adam who's four knows it by heart .
Last week he learned 'My country tis of thee' too !
Depends on what school .

Yea I remember doing that as well when I was going to school. We first said the pledge, then the song right after. After elementary school, we just did the pledge. As far as I know, schools still do it here.

The only pledge I use is the pledge on My busa with liberty and justice for all who want a clean looking bike:thumbsup:

Huh every time I comment on something like this I'm told I just full of conspiracy cr*p. So yall guard up Just in case, and I'll shut up.. Cheers

A short history of the Pledge of Allegiance

Or, for those of you who read the Bible, "I am The Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me." Exodus 20:2-3

 Can I retract my shid stirring stick before the mob lynches me this time? These things ain't cheap.

9-11 and the fact that not everyone follows the same religion as well as the government has to be able to seperate church from state

originally the words "under god" were not part of the pledge.....now that's really the land of the free and the home of the brave.

and the first comma between "under God, indivisible," shouldn't be there. There is no pause but everyone says it with a pause when saying it aloud.

Ok, this is starting to bug me a little... Is your intention there to mean that God himself is indivisible? Otherwise, the sentence structure breaks apart without the comma.

In either case, I am unable to follow your logic.

My intention is to say that most people say it incorrectly. It's also to state that Wikipedia is wrong. I also incorrectly copy/pasted my original post. That's what I get for posting tired again. Let me clarify:

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America (natural pause)
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one Nation under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.

NOTE: There would be FOUR PAUSES when reciting the Pledge… first note that there is no comma after the word “America” but a ‘natural’ breathing pause…
PAUSES would then be…
(1) after the word “America” –
(2) after “stands,” –
(3) after “one Nation under God,” –
and (4) after “indivisible,”.

Most people pause between "one Nation" and "under God" and that's how it's typed on Wikipedia. Just saying, it is incorrect.

Kansas City, MO, my sons school still says it. They're actually learning what each part of the pledge means right now. He's in 2nd grade north Kansas city public schools.
