PLUGS AND BOX FILTER

I WAS WONDERING IF U COULD TAKE THE FILTER OUT, MAKE ONE THAT FILTERS AIR BUT JUST COVERS HOLE IN BOX AND SEAL THE BOX AT THE TOP. WOULD THIS DO ANYTHING? I KNOW U WOULD HAVE TO MAKE IT RICHER. BUT WOULD U SEE ANY GAINS FROM IT? ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THE NGK CR10EK IS A GOOD PLUG? I WAS TOLD IT GIVES YOU A HOTTER SPARK. ANY INPUT WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS

I cut the filter off My airbox lid.

Cut around the outside of the flapper area, used plastic epoxy and fiber glass screen to cover the hole.

I can't tell you of an exact gain but there is NOTHING restricing any air flow to the thottle bodies. Also, there is nothing to disturb the way the air moves around inside the airbox.

The fiber glass screen is a very small close woven type. I don't see much getting through it other then maybe some dust.

I would really like to slap My airbox on a stock Busa or one that has one of the other type of mods done to it, so I can see how much if any benifits there are...

well frank i have little mods done and i will go ahead and do it. Will not be a big thing except the price for the dyno ill leyt u kow what i find out give me about a week. Any idea on the plugs?

Previous posts here seem to favor CR9EK. Don't know your use, mods, etc so can't comment on heat range differences.

GSX1300guy, read the CF airbox thread and post a few thoughts.

Frank, Q)If you covered the box with a breathable fiberglass fabric would this not drop air pressure from its full potential. Kinda like a boat with a hole in it. Factory Suzuki works airboxes have vanes in the lid to direct air flow and little golf ball dimples in the ram air tubes, but no mention of fiberglass cloth covering any openings.
Would you not be better off like gsx1300guys early suggestion/experiment with careful sealing of the airbox (he made up special rubber boots to fit the ram air intake tubes)?

I am asking, not preaching - only asking!

KAW, I BELIEVE HE SEALED THE BOX AT THE TOP AND COVERED THE HOLE WHERE THE FLAPPER VALVE USE TO BE WITH THE FIBERGLASS. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG FRANK. I AM GOING TO DO THIS TODAY AND GET TO THE DYNO TOMMORROW OR FRI. ILL LET U KNOW WHAT I FIND OUT. WITHOUT AIR BEING FORCED IN, WILL IT NOT BE DIFFICULT TO FIND OUT THE TRUE GAINS??

Busagsx1300, you are right. I just reread the post and all I can say is I have been tired as hell.

But if there is concern about the fiberglass cloth being breathable why not use aluminum tape like on HVAC systems. That would seal very well and is really strong for tape that is.

Goodnight..........ZZZZzzzzz............
