How? Is this a DIY task? or does it need to be done professionally? And could it take out scratches?

Yes on all the questions.Just be patient. When i polished my N2O bottle for my car,It took about 6 hours of wet sanding, but it looks like chrome.Wet sand it with 400,600,800,1200 grit paper, then polish it with a cotton polishing wheel and jeweler's rouge to a high luster.

I've started but its not easy. Sanding through the spiral maching grooves without leaving a flat spot is a big job. I started on the back side of the can just to get a idea what it was going to take. Took 2 hours to do 1/4 of a can so I guess it would take 8 hours to do both cans. I decided to get the sound I want first by drilling it out. Don't want to do all that work if its still going to sound stock. If I don't like the sound then its time for a slip on exhaust. I've seen the finished product on a local guys bike really looks and sounds nice. Have the instructions for polishing the cans in an E-book I can send just send me a email address.

Damn could use that one on the left in my bathroom as a mirror to shave with.
I just might try that.
