Ok, I read all the post on how to do this. Just had one question, what type of wheel are you using to put on the end of the drill to polish?
Thanks.

I polished mine by hand takes longer but I did like the mess of a ball. I tried the Mothers mini power ball for about one minute had polish everywere alot of it on me and the back of my pickup.

LOL....just came from wal-mart and seen that thing....almost got it!! Found a kit that has a buffing type pad that should work...we'll see. Have the thinner on right now. Couldn't find the "aircraft grade" thinner.

Question: I have seen where people have sanded(1000 grit or something) before polishing. Is this something that NEEDS to be done...cause have seen where people have talked about stripping then going right to polishing? Any suggestions?

I hope you mean stripper... walmart shoulda had it. thinner won't do you any good besides removing the grease & grime. after I stripped mine, I just started sanding, sanding, and still sanding. the easy part is the rim... just has slight machine marks... the sucky part is the spokes and hub...pretty rough cast. that's the part I'm on now. good luck

Dude you have a long boring process ahead of you. After i used the stripper i went right into it with sanding. Then polishing. Are you planning on doing the cast part of the wheel? Another thing...id go chrome over polish becasue after every ride or getting wet you are going ot have to polish the wheels again. I found i spent more time polsihing then riding. Also when you get chain grease on your wheels you are going to have to repolish again. Once you get started its strait forward.

I have two words for everyone... "Britemax Polish". Purchase the Easy Cut and Final Shine polishes. You probably wont even have to sand the wheels. We use this stuff on aircraft all the time. Cuts right thru paint (though not recommended) to develope a showroom shine.

Don't know if you guys have heard of it, but ther is some stuff called zoopseal. It is suppose to seal up all the small indentions in aluminum that causes stains and what not. after sealed, all you should have to do is whipe the rims down when they get dirty. Should always be left with that nice shine.

I just did this myself, If you go to appearence mod section and look at Big"O"s busa you'll see the pics, I just did the stripper and the rim was in good enough shape that I wet sanded in 1000 on one side then polished with just mothers on the other side and the difference was almost unnoticeable, I would suggest working in sections and let the stripper do the work, some sections came off more easily and the rear was a piece of cake. Be prepared to spend some time and Advil for the fingers! Good luck,
"O"

the zoopsseal works i used it on my weld wheels i had on my truck, although the britemax stuff sounds really good for the polishing part also...

I hate having to clean them, let alone the thought of maintaining them polished.
Best advice for a beginner to Polishing is do grab bar and then let that ride for a month or so,so you can see what to expect on maintenance and such. Grab bar can easily be repainted. Wheels not so easy.
