OK Guys,
Here it is. Just got off the phone with my mech. The rear sprocket hub dampners on mine where installed incorrectly when the bike was assembled. That caused accelerated wear. It is being fixed under factory defect warrenty. The bike has between 2200 and 2300 miles on it and they haven't been hard miles. I don't know if that everyone's prob, but for the guys that have new bikes have them check it out.

Peace.
Don

i wouldnt count on that. dealers have a way of making something the problem to get it out of there hair when they cant find whats really eating it let us know after you have tested it your self im pretty sure if this is the noise i had its comming from the front sprocket not the rear otherwise replacement of the front sprocket would not have eliminated it from my bike i belive this noise to be suzukis version of a pop off valve for the busas heavy torqe please correct me if anyone disagrees but if so please tell me how you install the cush drive incorectly?? Im not trying to be negative dealers just aggravate me with crap they pull

Guys, I'm new here. But I've perused the archives here for the last few days.

We're hearing several different things that are presumably causing this problem. I don't know whether they could all be right...

I took my 2004 to the dealer for this reason. He test rode it and "noted" the problem in his records. Big whooop. He doesn't know what causes it either.

As far as the varied prognosises (is that a word?)... The common thing that would link all of the presumed "fixes" together is a chain lube and tension adjustment. In other words, one person says this problem is one thing and you must do so and so. Another says it's caused by such and such and you gotta do blah blah etc. They both claim fixes. The only thing they did in common was clean/lube the chain and presumably adjust it when it went back on.

Cleaning and lubing my chain, as well as properly adjusting it, took care of my bike's popping in the drive chain.

It would appear that the popping is coming at HIGH TORQUE at LOWER SPEEDS. Simply, the chain is "riding" high in the gear teeth, and when it drops into the cog like it is supposed to you get the "pop."

Transmission problems don't manifest like this alone; they'll have other symptoms like grinding or constant whining, heating, clunking EVERYTIME you go to a gear, and such.

This "popping on takeoff" is--at least in my experience and that of some of you (according to what I've read here)--something that doesn't happen every time. It only happens when the chain tries to run high on the gear teeth for a moment and then it drops in.

Clean and lube the chain and adjust it properly and that ought to do it.
