Price for a Good helmet

I posted about the Scorpion helmet that is falling apart.

I paid $205 for it with an extra visor. What is the next step in quality/price? I want something that has the revised SNEL standards, but I don't really want to spend more than $350. What does it take to get a helmet that I don't have to worry about if it rolls off a couch.
The old one never did, but Jeez, I want something on my head that won't fold like a cheap suit when a June bug hits it!

I posted this same message on SH.org, so if you see it there, you don't have double vision.

I have two brand new Shoei helmets at the shop ready to ship for that 250 each. Hit me up.

I will as soon as the wife gets over the $75 ticket I just got. Maybe about a week. What size are they? And what color?

i have had shoei rf1000 helmets with my 750, and got a new matching one for the busa. They are pretty pricey at about $400-$450 but i absolutely love them. They are so comfortable

Depends on where you live... if you want light-weight, well-vented, inexpensive, GREAT optics on the shield and don't care about wind noise much, THIS is the easy choice for just over $120, the webbikeworld '07 helmet of the year:

GMAX GM68S Helmet - webBikeWorld

Better colors and a place you can actually buy them:
GMax GM68 Crusader Helmet - Street Bike - Men's Riding Gear - Motorcycle Superstore

I have one and there's a good bit of wind noise (high-pitched/whistling, not the low rumbles at all), but light, cool, looks good, feels good and the LEDs on the back are a very nice touch.

Not sure about the revised SNEL standards though... You'll have to check that for yourself.

:cheerleader:i paid $200.00 for my shoei rf1000 hayabusa helmet in feb off of ebay. it's a 2006 model brand new in the box, $550.00 helmet, look there as well

Do you like the helmet? Do all the small parts like the vents seem like they might last a couple of years? How much do they weigh? And, what about the visor fogging? Why so cheap on EBAY?

Sorry about so many questions, but they really are important.

I have 3 Scorpion Exo-700 and love them No problems with them what so ever. Had 1 for about 3 years now. I also have 2 HJC CL-SP's that I have had for about 2 years. I ove them also. Heavy and wind noise but then again I am not a little guy so the weight is not an issue for me. But I did just get my Shoei X-Eleven today. WOOO HOOO. Not CHEAP.
And for your Scorpion, according to them, you are suppose to take it back to your local dealer and they will send it to Scorpion for repair.

Thanks! I think helmets may be like red wine. You can't judge by price alone.

The revised SNEL standards, as I understand them, require the helmet to crush more and give less Gs to the head. The old SNEL helmets were so bullet proof that they would transfer 200gs to a riders head without damage to the helmet.

Great for the helmet, not so good for the rider. The military set a max transfer of 120 gs for helicopter helmets a while back.

You are right though. I'll have to choose for myself. It turns out that DOT standards allow more crush and better outcome for riders than DOT/Snell (old version).

+1 But I don't think the Gmax's are snell approved but I love them anyway:thumbsup:
