Question for suspension gurus concerning linkage ratio.

Do the shorter +1 raising links increase or decrease the leverage ratio?

In other words, do shorter dog bones cause the shock travel to increase or decrease for a given amount of rear wheel travel. Assuming, of course, all other variables are constant.

It only changes the ride height...spring rate, shock valving and travel do not change.

I think he is asking if the ratio on the linkage changes when you move the pivot point up or down on the strut...

I never looked at the setup close enough to venture a guess..

The +1 links are only 3/8" shorter than the stock ones...this does not max the shock linkage. The mod will increase the ride height 1" and will have no effect on swingarm angle, nor will it change rear suspension geometry.
 
It only changes the ride height...spring rate, shock valving and travel do not change.

I know they change the ride height and I know they (obviously :laugh:) do not effect spring rate or valving.

I have an Ohlins shock, and if the dog bones effect the linkage ratio, I thought I might be better off by using the ride height adjuster to well, change the ride height, as opposed to shortening the dog bones. But, from what you are saying varying the length of the dog bones has no effect on the amount the tire moves compared to shock travel.

Just to be clear I have +1 bones and then I installed the Ohlins shock.

aww ok, but it would affect swingarm angle then...
 
Too much preload will cause handling problems. Wheel travel is limited by the shock...or if you lower the rear of the bike too much...it will hit the tail section.

Are you having handling issues ???

btw, that lox rocked! I had to wait to find some fresh salmon (all looked dyed or something)

now why you messing with the ohlins stuff?

I went out in garage and ran the bike up and down 1" on the rear dogbone.. it looks like the 1" raising link causes maybe 1-2 degrees on the swingarm relative to the frame, looks like Rich is right on all the rest of it, no change in the other geometry...

I bet couple degrees on the swingarm could change handling on corner entry and exit if you can ride the bike to the edge....

I was just ruminating as I was riding along and got to wondering if changing the dog bones changed the how much the swing arm moves in relation to the how much the shock travels. And I thought if that ratio is changed, maybe, I could, for a winter project, removes the shorter dog bones and replace them with the stock ones. But having viewed the microfiche it looks like the ratio is set by the doohickey the dog bones bolt to and the dog bones would have little effect on said ratio.

As already mentioned, it doesn't effect the ratio. There's only one thing I know of that's available to make adjustments. :whistle:

It was too late to do a edit, there is a slight change in the swingarm angle...not enough that the average Busa rider could ever tell a difference.

What I meant about the suspension geometry, is that it has no effect on how the shock link interacts with the swingarm.

Don't you have some false Obama stories to be reporting on :lol:
