R6 to Busa

I'm a little late to the game so to speak as I just hit 40 earlier this summer. I purchased my first bike, a 2002 R6, towards the end of the riding season last year so I really only have about one years worth of riding experience. And now I just picked up an '06 Busa with less than 3,500 miles. The bike fell in the trailer during the 3.5 hour trek home. Mostly cosmetic damage. The fairings were scratched and the throttle handle switch was damaged as well. I'm obviously not happy and was nearly brought to tears as the bike sports a custom paint job but I'll have to deal with it one way or another.

Anyway, is this too big a jump from the Yamaha given my limited riding experience? I guess it's a moot point because this is the bike I wanted all along and I've got to live with it one way or another. I made an agreement with my wife to start with something small and would upgrade to the Busa if I enjoyed riding. Let's just say I had a pretty good idea how this one would turn out. I'd love to say that being older and more "mature" would reflect in my driving style but I can't deny that I pushed the R6 on occasion to a point I thought was senseless.

So I'm excited, extremely nervous and anxious to get riding. I most likely won't take it out until the spring however.

Welcome to the oRg. You wont regret the upgrade, but keep in mind, the busa will go from "this is fast" to OMG in a split second. :welcome:

Welcome and be safe. The busa was my first bike and just as you did with the Yamaha you will respect it but as your confidence grows you will push it further and further. Just don't push it too soon.

I went about the same route as you. I had not ridden since I was 21 and went out and bought a cbr600 last year at the age of 38. Kept it for 6 months than upgraded to a busa this past February. You'll get used to the extra horses quick. I've learned throttle control is key with this bike. The extra weight was the hardest thing for me to get used to, the busa is a fat girl. Welcome to the club.

I went from a Honda VT500 for 3 months, to a Busa as my second ever bike.
Simple formula worked for me: "ride to your potential, not the bike's potential"
