Race tires

So I'm having a tough time digging up different brands of race tires and vendors that sell them.

If you've got race slicks I would like to hear your comments on them. Whatever brand they are and the type of compound (medium, soft, etc). Also where did you get them?

I found a place to get Michelin S1270A's but I'm more interested in S1930A's instead. I know dunlop, perelli, bridgestone, michelin make slicks but who else does? Conti?

Fill me in one your "slick" knowledge.

glad to help,,,youve dug me out a ditch from time to time,
The cheapest place on the planet that ive seen with the biggest selection ,including slicks,,,,, derbycycles [dont know if its .com org ] just use google and they will find it,,
After my factory brigestone wore out,,The Tire at that time everyone was ranting about because of it multi texture on the bottom and different on the sides,, Was the Michlen Pilot Power,,They were 225 a pop,a place in FL at the time ran a sale3 yrs ago and I picked one up for about 125 bucks,,
About 3 weeks ago,,I searched the net looking fora good but cheap back tire only,My nearest dealer wanted 185 b4 tax for the rar miclen alone,,,thats not putting it on either,,,,,so I hunted down the same tire,,It for strret is sweet,,,soft cushy ride and hooks ups when you smack the gas,,,Either way,,they had the tire [derbycycles] for 110,00 for the rear and 73 bucks [ matching set Z rated of course]There is no shipping,,and no tax,,,,fedex ground ,TYD,,sweet,,I had them toss 2 sets of EBC sinistered brakes for the front[ I still have half life on the originals,,,] but for 29 bucks a set , and their 45 elsewhere,,,it was a no brainer to tell him to toss them in too,,,theres no set amount for the free shipping either,,,,and Yeah,,I saw some Slicks on there,,
LOL,,,beware when you look on line,,,I was like a kid in a candy store,,,with my wife dragging out to the car,,,LOL,,,,There good guys to deal with,,and they respond quickly when you call or pplace an order on line,,It Ships That Day,,,,,,,You might want the mrs in the room when you order,,,or you end up with a semi backing up to your door with 5 guys to unload your mods,,,,,They Also runs [legitimate] sales on tires too,,,I looked on line first,,then called their store with a few questions,,then ordered on line,,I hope you find what your looking for,,Im sure from my experence talking with them and after you dig at their website,,their knowledge will guide you as they did me on whats new and good but whats just a name,,good guys,,treated me well,,,,enjoy

thanks bobber - I did give them a quick call but they said they only sell what's listed on their site. oh well. He couldn't give me any info on slicks either. I think I confused him a little.

I have talked to the Dunlop "tire guy". I'll try and reach out to a few others and see if I can get some more info from some other brands as well.

btw, anyone thinking about the N-tec W277 Daytona tire as a good durable/heat resistant tire, don't bother. The design of the carcass itself is different from left to right side (harder left side and softer right side). If all else fails maybe I'll pickup their 6680 and shave it down a bit.

I hope you find what ur looking for,,,,Its kind of like a good dog or a good pair of sneakers or girlfriend,,,When you find one you like and it works for you,,keep it,,,I was really pleased with the michlens,,,,,Too bad Micky T doesnt make one for you,,or maybe they do,,,,pretty pricey tire ,,to just trial and error,,,Theres alot of dragboys with slicks in here,,,,your doing The mile or mile and a half arent you?/ whats the slick for? are you running for topend speed or best time in the mile,,that'd make sense

yes, this is for top speed (lowest trap time) both mile and 1.5 mile. For Bonneville you need a race tire now. Since my long term plans are to make it out there I might as well start testing with some of these types of tires. I was always happy with both the old Michelin Power Race and the Power One. I was never a big Dunlop fan but that was strictly based on back road rides. For top speed or track I've never used Dunlop so I can't rule them out. We'll see...

derby has the power 1 and a variaity,of others,,but I'll take a michlen over a dunlop anyday,,ive ran them,,but only cause the mich's were to high at the time,,the mich 1,are about 120-130- or less out the door No shipping,,Is you miler the only busa your running,or do you have street/strip,,,your pic;s of the miler are shaved down to bare nothing,,,might as well be just sitting on the motor with a milk jug for fuel straped to you back if you widdle any more,
pz,have you considered saran wrap ?? you could lose more weight by replacethe motors side covers and valve cover,,just make sure you get the good duct tape, and wear goggles,,dont want any oil getting in your eyes at WOT @ 250 mph

mine is still a street bike tags and all  The power one is a race DOT tire so it may not be considered an actual race tire. :rolleyes2: A rice slick is not DOT or street legal, they're strictly track/race use only tires so they fit the bill. I'll hold on to my power one's for the street legal events and just swap them out when needed.

How about the Mickey thompson H2? My buddy is looking for one and I actually logged in to see what the crew here thought of them? Also, he has a stock wheel base 2000 Busa with a 190 on it now. Can he use a 200 on a stock rim without mods?

Thanks,

Brian

yes a 200 can fit a stock wheel.

If you are looking for a full on Race Tire you'll have to go to a trackside vendor. Race tires are not sold through warehouse vendors.

If you are looking for a race tire to use on Straightline racing, I'd simply buy a race takeoff from a road racer. They are dirt cheap ant the centers are like new. If you want New, contact your local trackside vendor and he will have whatever you desire.

Contact LA BUSA (Randy) he can direct you to a Race Tire Vendor. Sit down when you get the price, they are not cheap! We pay $460 a set for Dunlop Ntec tires! However, these bad boys have phenominal grip!
