Radar Detector Installation

Well a bike like the Busa is not complete without a radar detector. Unfortuneately, there is very little space available for a suitable mounting location. If anyone has any good ideas for choice of radar detector mfg/model and mounting locations I'm sure that the rest of us would like to hear about it.....

Well the solution is very simple.
1)buy a Valentine with the remote display
2)Install the remote on top of the speedo/tach and run the wire through the drain in the front by the bottom of the wind shield
3)purchase a Saeng mount for the remote audio control(Valentine)
4)wire all this into an AutoComm Pro 3000
5)now you have the best direct wired radar/laser detector money can buy
6)this set up allows you to incorporate a radar detector with an other audio source(cell phone or walkman)so that the radar detector overrides the input from the others to notify you of the police.

The remote display is easily viewable through the top of the windscreen showing you the direction of the incomming signal what type it is and the strength.

I have installed this and it WORKS

I am in the process of incorporating fiber optic cables to enable laser detection while mounting the unit in the cowling.

Contact me if you have an interest I will send pictures and diagrams for installation

thank you, KawAbuser

Kawabuser, can you tell me where I can buy the Valentine Radar Detector and is it small, can be removed while parked at the Mall,"don't what it stolen. What's the cost for this Radar Detector and can I mail order or web order? Is this the best detector on the market. As for real speed information,I'm going to mount a GPS unit that will give me real speed,I'll post the model of the GPS unit when I get it.

nice
but...
that whole set-up you're talking about would run about 2K
with the procom... etc
a bel 955 STI with remote for motorcycle use that fits in your pocket with forward reflector will work well also
i know lots of folks with the valentine 1 in their cars and they have had mixed reviews of them
very mixed

think about it
the autocom is the best intercom/communicator on the market, though
but you sure pay the price for it

Cisco, the Valentine is the Best radar detector made and it is only available directly from the manufacturer. Yes, the remote display can be removed and put under the cowling at the mall. Go to (Valentine.com)for information and to purchase the detector ($400). If you need information on bike installation send me an email.

Just spoke with technicians at Valentine
I was told that mounting the Detector in the cowling behind rider would not hamper radar detection only disable the laser portion. I curruntly mount mine in a Suzuki magnetic tankbag. I am working on a fiber optic cable solution for the laser detection. I plan to use architectural glass fiber optics that I use in some of my work illuminating glass blocks. Mounting the detector in the cowling will give it a safe and dry home and the remote display giveing all the information up front(mounted on top of the speedo-tach).

you are right
i don't ride many miles at the speed limit
do you really feel that the bel unit is worthless?
others seem to like it
and it does have a remote hook-up for an earpiece
a lot of folks i know have the autocom set-up
i have been wanting one for years
i have probably spent close to that much for 2 or 3 other systems (combined)
making bad decisions about that in the past

the autocom pro system
with the good headsets for 2 helmets
will run about $1400.00 USD
i know NASCAR uses it
and formula 1 as well
it's the best
i wish they'd give the rest of a discount if we bought 20 at once, if you know what i mean

the valentine 1, on the other hand
i have personally played with 10 of them
so many of my friends have them
for the car, that is
i have mixed feelings about that unit myself
i know all about it's inception
from that guy who left cincinati microwave years ago (the makers of the passport/escort radar detectors of fame)

the unit is big
cumbersome
not the easiest to set-up
the front, side, and rear detection is what it is famous for
but...
i don't know that it'll work that way on a bike
with your body blocking the rear deflector
it's job is to show you which direction the radar is coming from
that's what makes it special
but... on the busa
i think that frontal detection is primary
when you are traveling about 100 MPH there is no such thing as "radar hitting you from the side"

take care
tell me what you think
greg

Hmmm, got snagged by laser just today. 79 in a 65mph. It will cost me $100 for the fine. Looks like I need to get a Valentine asap, as I was just "puttin" along. Glad I was not making a speed run.

Never had a negative word about the Valentine 1 and I have lots of friends in the auto electronics game...it's very hard for them to sell against it because no one complains about it (that I had heard of). I recommended to a guy here at the office that drive about 2 hours before and after work (can't believe he moved there)...he loves the detector.

Just FYI...

Greg, I am only trying to offer information on something that really works. If you check prices the Valentine1 with remote display and remote audio that you can hook up to any headphone is $500. Yes the AutoComm stuff is not cheap but can be purchased piece by piece, over time it is not such a big bite.
Speeding ticket on this bike are going to be big problems for people: Reckless Driving = Loss of License, Big Fines, your bike towed and the bodywork destroyed by the tow truck.
This will all cost more than the cost of the Valentine1 setup. Or keep running cops and kill yourself or others. I would rather invest in a radar detector. Honestly how many miles have you ridden at the speed limit.
