Hello all.Ive recently gotten around to removing the rear shock in preparation for the Ohlins unit.Anyway it all turned out a little more hassle than I remember from the previous time.
Basically it came down to me having the bike horizontal on the ABBA vs having it in the proper(for rear shock removal) stopping position.
Anyway I'd like some advice on the rear cushion if it needs replacing or not.Its around 330 for the unit so if I can save it it'd be great.Pleaae advise. Thanks in advance.

If you're putting an Ohlins shock on you definately want new bearings.
Why not replace the bearings instead?
The middle 2 most likely butt up against a shoulder inside, but as fragile as they are, would not be difficult to remove.
The new bearings can also be pressed in very easily, just use the center sleeve or bar stock of the same o.d to support them as they go in.
The cost of 4 bearings should be roughly $100-$120, and any decent machine shop should be able to install new ones in just a few minutes each, so about an hour minimun rate(if you don't have a press)
That should get you done for about 2/3 the cost of new, save $100 or so.

Don't need to replace it, just clean and grease those bearings.

clean and regrease. Once you have put it back together, feel for any movement in the suspention by pulling up on the swing arm with one hand and the other hand on the linkage. Do this with no weight on the rear wheel on an Abba stand.

I have no experience with bearings.Looking at the diagram there are 2 bearing pieces with one either end correct?Should I replace those with genuine Suzuki?
Yes one bearing on either side. As long as all the rollers on the bearings you have are there don't replace them. But if you have to yes use the Suzuki bearing or upgrade and find a hybrid ceramic one.

For me, if you don't know the history or age of these parts, as you have it already out for servicing, take it to a shop and get new bearings installed. Then you know the history and condition of them.
It's already out, just do it.

Having small ocd, putting them straight back in without replacing messes with my head. I like to know.

Just make sure to use a good quality water resistant grease when loading them up again.
