Rear Signals

I've seen a few similar posts but didn't want to jack anyone's thread so I hope this is OK. I picked up an '06 Busa last fall which is sitting in my garages. I'm trying to get it ready for the spring and the only real issue I have is with the rear turn signals. The issue is the bike has no rear turn signals so I need to do something before I take it for an inspection. It actually does have signals but they are buried way underneath the tail section. They are not at all visible from the rear so I'm looking for some suggestions on what to do. I snapped a quick shot of the tail with my phone to give you an idea of what it looks like. This is my first Busa and I have no idea what kind of tail was put on the bike. I live in MA and also don't know what the "rules" are for the real signals. I thought I heard someone say they must be spaced 7" apart but I'm not sure. If I can get away with a mod to use the tail light as my L/R blinkers I'd be willing to try that first.

Thanks

You'll need to do a search (Google) for your local state laws as well as the federal laws. Some states just point to the federal requirements while others have their own requirements. For example, some States say that turn signals are not required but if installed, then they must meet certain requirements.

From memory, the federal law is 9" from tail light. Take a look at my avitar. I also have turn signals under the tail. They are very visible even in day light but I added additional super bright LED turn signals attached to the plate just in case...

You look a bit long, low and fat in the tire area so ya may need to think outside the box or get an intergrated light. How well do you know the guys at your local bike shop? If they arent sticklers you can get away with a lot more. Id chat with them and see how strict they are then work from there.

Can you give me more info on the signals under your tail as I can't tell from the pic. Are they integrated or attached underneath? I really want to avoid drilling holes in the tail if at all possible. On my R6, the plate bracket was under the tail and I did the same thing but I don't have that option here. The bracket is attached to the right rear passenger foot peg.

Yes, that's a nice way of putting it . That's why they added a pair of signals underneath the tail but as I said you probably wouldn't know they were there unless I pointed them out to you. No way anyone is going to see them in the dark let alone the day. I'm thinking an integrated light is my best option at this point as it wouldn't require any mods to the tail itself. I don't want to drill holes in the tail if I don't have to.

Clear Alternatives may be a good deal if it will pass your local inspection. Call Pashnit up and see what he can do for you.

I didn't drill holes in the tail, it's part of the Mototek undertail that I installed. I circled the turn signals that are under the tail:

Will do. Tx.

I really like the look of your tail. I'm still leaning towards an integrated solution but might consider adding two of the round flashers like you have. I don't think I have the room to do much else.
