Remapping

Put on new pipes and having the bike remapped was suggested.... does anyone know if there are availble kits/setups to remap yourself? I don't know a whole lot about this process but would like to learn. One of my buddies rides a custom setup Vrod and has a simple USB hookup for his laptop so he can make trackside adjustments... I'm assuming this is basically remapping on the fly? Anybody have any suggestions? I'd prefer not to have to pay a shop to remap the bike everytime i make an adjusment or addtion at $85 a pop.

The program and cord should be included with your power commander. And getting maps is just a matter of going to the power commander website.
 
My local shop wants $260 for a custom map done on the dyno link... your guy is a bargain..
 
Supertrucker has it nailed.

Normally, you would go to the Powercommander.com website and download a map specific for (in your case) TwoBros M2 slip-ons.

Strangely, however, as of the time of this post, Powercommander.com doesn't list one for the TwoBros slip-ons yet. That don't list any maps other than stock (zero) maps for the Gen II Hayabusa. Check it out:

All that aside.... I don't think I would (personally) get your bike dyno'ed to obtain a custom map for your slip-ons (unless you have money to burn). I've been using PC-IIIs for many years now, and, truly, unless you have a full exhaust system, the ROI for the cost and hassle of scheduling dyno time for slip-ons is pretty marginal. A pair of slip-ons just isn't going to make a massively noticeable improvement (not enough to warrant paying for expensive dyno time, anyway).

Personally, I would just run the stock map until a map specific for your M2s are publicly available on DynoJet's web site. This is the price you pay for being on the bleeding edge of new model ownership.

Others may have different opinions, and will no doubt share them.

The only custom maps I have seen available so far are for Brock's exhaust systems. He sells the PCIII already mapped with his exhaust system. His 08' Busa full exhaust is $ 1,045.00 and the PCIII $ 339.00. It's an option if you decided to go full exhaust now...
 
tell me about installing a power commander.... too tough for the average joe to do? How about cost or preferred models? I'm sure this is a topic that has already been covered sometime in the past, but perhaps I'm too lazy to search for it. :-)
 
oh yeah... and before I do any of this... does the software for the powercommanders work with Macs? I've had the same problem with my diving computers.. can't do any downloading or dive mapping because nobody makes a software compatible with Macs.
 
No - it only runs on Windows (ME, XP and maybe Vista). I guess you could try a Mac Windows emulator - might work. They did support Palm at one time. Not sure if they do now though, and Palms don't support USB as far as I know.

PS I'm not a nerd, I just happen to work in IT... Or maybe that means I am a nerd...
 
but apparently you can remap without us of a PC? I was reading about it on their website... any idea if the LCD screen accessory allows you to have any better access to remapping on the fly?
 
Did you change the air filter? If not that will probably be the next thing you do and then the map would need to be tweeked again. I would wait, ride it for a while with the new pipes and filter and then see if you really need to buy a power commander and remap. These bikes have an ECU that is constantly sensing and adjusting.

Yes I believe so - you'd need to get an SD card and download any maps you wanted to it,via your Mac and an SD card reader. I think the screen add-on allows you to do the stuff you could do on a laptop. But then you could probably get a cheap Windows laptop and do the same job!

Yes - you can be your own dyno shop (even better).

Replace the O2 sensor with the Dynojet WideBand O2 (>$400) and it will store speed runs with ram air. Then change the map yourself with a PC. You can also buy the piece that will let you map on the bike and no PC is needed. It holds multiple maps and you can remap on the side of the road and make another pass. With the PCIII, it costs about $1000. But, you can use the same equipement on any bike or car! I still have not done this, but have talked with Dynojet and Hard Racing. I think it may just be the long term solution.

I don't belive that is correct. Unless its a closed loop EFI with an Oxigen sensor, the system CANNOT learn/adjust. The computer has no clue as to the actual AFR. It just delivers a specific amount of fuel based on: TPS, engine temp, RPMs, and intake air temp, and map sensor.

I think they can only adjust for air temperature and pressure.

I thought I read that the 08 did not have an 02 sensor?

The 08 does have an o2 sensor. The 07 1k was the first to have it. But when you put the power commander on it will come with a bypass plug that eleminates it for a new exhaust system.
